Painting a guitar

whats the best kind of paint to use when painting a guitar? lacquer? enamel? acrylic?

I have a shitty Washburn that was a pussy bright red color. I just sanded it down and painted it camoflauge with regular arts and craft paint from Wal-Mart, then glued beer bottle caps all over the body. It looks like pure shit but everyone thinks it's cool

For solid colors, your best bet is to go to an auto supply store and pick up a can or two of duplicolor auto spray laquer, some primer, and clear coat.
