That's a what a '51 headstock is...it's basically the original telecaster headstock. I've played a few of these, I'm putting flat wounds on it and going to use it for mellow/tonal tunes.
Should be perfect for stuff like Pearl Jam "Elderly lady" and "Black"....among other similar tunes we do acoustically.

And why exactly would I change my name to "Schmeagle"?[/b]

I was looking into perhaps snagging another bass, like one of those cool Eastwood or Italia basses but then I just realized I need to buy hardware and pad cases for my electronic drumset, among other things. Looks like I'm about to be a full-time drummer now. Yikes!
Don't hate me for being a traitor, Papabass.
Izzy: do you realize how broad "environmental science" is?
Izzy: it's like going to school for history
Izzy: well, more useful than that
Izzy: but an expert on the civil war won't know jackshit on uhh

It's all rhythm brother.

I guess it's better than being a guitard, eh?

Where was that bass made?
How does it sound?
It was just delivered yesterday, It's a MIJ, which in todays standards, they are as good if not better than the US made.
It was strung with flat wounds when I got it, so I went this morning and got some 45-105 DR Hi Beams (and some schaller strap locks) and restrung it and tuneed it. It has a crisp bright sound that you expect out of a single coil pick up, and the tone knob actually works like it's named...it has a wide variable array of soft/warm to slap/pop tones. The neck is chunky, but fast and it has really small (correct for a real '51) frets that make the neck faster than other P basses with jumbo frets.
Bottom line, it will definately be a player, I have wanted one for a few years now and I'm not disappointed.

I was looking at this Jag bass, but since I've played a Musicman Bongo, I now know what I need...
"The world I live in is one where I have five quarrels a day, each with someone who really takes me on over something; and if I can't get into an argument, I go looking for one, to make sure I trust my own arguments, to hone them."

Pfloyds got a bongo, the toilet seat bass!
And it is sweeeeeeeeeeet to play. I love that bass. I haven't gotten to whip it out live yet because I've mostly been doing sideman gigs lately and it always seems to get a quirked eyebrow from the singer-songwriter types. Maybe I'll play it tonight for the show I'm opening for Richard Lloyd. I bet *he* appreciates quirky basses. The guy is a space cadet!

Every time I see the title of this thread I think of Papabass with pigtails and a catholic schoolgirl uniform. *shudder*
