i was just watching Michael Angelo Batio, and i like his sound. whats the best way to get that clean "shred" sound?

You can turn down the gain on your amp or distortion pedal, or if you're running it through an effects loop you can mix some of the distortion sound with the dry amp signal.

But really, most of that "clean" sound is in clean playing. Firmly pressed down strings and chords, no fret buzz from a poorly set-up guitar, muted notes that aren't meant to be played, clean pick sound and so on.
