Playing guitar and singing at the same time/ writing lyrics.

Its been 5 months trying to find a vocalist who doesnt scream or growl like a gorilla the whole time, and thats all the kids want to do around here. My band wants more of an agressive cleanish singer... one that can do something like "this love" for example. (clean on "if ever words were spoken..." and dirty on "you keep this love") or something like layne from aic.

Well we want to get out of the basement and play some gigs, and it's pretty much come down on my lap because i know exactly how the vocals should be and i can sing they way we need it.

The only song i have tried singing on is metallica's seek and destroy. Pretty easy but i most of my bands guitar riffs are much more complicated.

How have any of you learned how to both sing, and play guitar at the same time.

The second question is, does anyone have any tips or links to sites on writing better lyrics?

There's some sites for Toronto where you can post if you're looking for band members. If you're not from a shit city, you might have some luck there. Look around.

practice practice practice. try to sing while ringing out the chords and work the rhythm in as you go
