Guitar Cabinets
I am wanting to improve from my bog-standard Marshall 4x12. So I am flogging it. I've been looking through various sites and such and there are some interesting cabs.
Mesa Boogie interests me, as does Engl. Hmmm, pricey but worth it?
What I am after is just some opinions... what do you use / why do you use it (over preferance to others) and what makes it better etc.
So just want yer opinions on cabinets - Like what to avoid, what to look for.
Cheers

I use Electric amp, which is the American version of Matamp (the company I believe is based in Huddersfield) which also is a shootoff of Orange. I am one of those believers that the thicker the cabinet, the heavy the tone.
Anyway check out the matamp cabs.

Right looking at getting this 2x12, mainly as a 4x12 is annoying for travelling with and ye got most power through the PA anyway... ish. But yeh, it's an Engl and I've heard they are pretty reliable and awesome. Plus they have V30s in them... which i have heard are great. But not tried them, noone near me stocks Engl.
Any opinions AT ALL!?

I use the Behringer 412S, with Jensens in it, and think it sounds phenomenal, especially for the price. I actually like the way my Peavey XXX sounds through it more than through the 1960A I played it through. Depends on the sounds you're going for, though.

I'll be looking for a new cab soon. I know most Mesa owner's go with Mesa cabs, but I haven't heard anything good about the Oversized Cabs (they get muddy at high volumes...sounds way too scooped...etc). I've played through one once, but that was through the PA, and while it sounded good, I wanted to hear it by itself.
Anyways, I'm thinkin about getting the 2x12 Mesa Cab. I used to play a solidstate Trace Elliot thru 2 15'inch EV speakers... and it sounded killer. Anyone out there use EV's?

You two shut up.
Anyway, thicker, and more importantly a sturdier cabinet is going to give you a better and thicker tone.
Less cab resonance/flexing = less tone and volume wasted due to energy being consumed/canceled by the flexing of a cabinet with weak structural integrity.
Get a good set of speakers in a fucking SOLID as shit cab, and you'll be more than pleased.
This principle is applicable to all audio reproduction endeavors.

One of my cabs is a homemade deal with aluminum car audio speakers in it.

Its a monster with my HotRod Deville.
Save the whales. Collect the whole set.

I have a peavey valveking head (100 watts) and I'm looking for something kind of versatile. I don't know too much about cabinets/speakers and all that stuff.

in practice its all styles. but performance-wise i only play metal and so i'd like an amp which pumps out as much high quality gain as possible.Ben wrote:What kind of style do you play?DBS wrote:i'm purchasing a new half stack soon. any recommendations? True, but everyone thinks Mesas are the best amps/cabs/etc ever made, which is just not true.DeathSion wrote:everything can be overated..especially when not set up correctly.Ben wrote:Mesa cabs = overrated
