Guitarists, you guys ever find yourselves in this situation..
where you create a riff/guitar part/solo/chord progression, etc. and you love how it sounds, but scrap it anyway cause it sounds too similar to something you've already heard? This has been happening to me a lot lately and is start to get very annoying.
Oh yeah. A lot of times I'll come up with something cool, so I'll keep playing it over and over and try to come up with something else that goes with it or just try to improve it and then I'll get sick of it and scrap it. I'm quite a perfectionist when it comes to music and I've come to find out that it isn't always a good thing.

Yeah, I was told to try and play em backwards???
And then you have something totally different to scrap...J/K
Once i figured out what the guy meant I thanked him.
He laughed so hard he almost blew a nut... and said
"That actually worked"
I got somethin out of it. anyhow

Just record it anyway (even a cheap tape deck with a pick-up mic will even work). You can always come back and work with it later, that way you can sort through your tapes (or CD-R) and expand upon it instead of kicking yourself in the ass for having forgot how it went.

It happens to most people that listen to music.. I think it's natural that if you like a riff or song, subconciously it'll still be there in your head when practicing.. so if you play something with remote resemblance of that idea then you might basically end up with a very similar musical creation. hate it when that happens btw. hasn't happened to me in a while though.. I'm trying to stay innovative.. but then again i havn't been composing shit in a while. Just workin on da Chopz boiE, so i can get my chuggin POD riffs on.
