Instruments you wish you never gave up on
I still kick myself constantly for giving up the piano since I really realized how it help me shape the way a note should sound or my understanding of theory. The reason I gave it up was because at the time I felt you could not do piano in metal, how wrong I was.

Trumpet. Call it ridiculous but I played it from the age of 7 to about 11 and nowadays I wish I still had one so I could learn some jazzy shit.

2 years of piano, I miss the left/right hand dexterity thing. My daughter plays piano now, so we have one, but I can't play shit. She taught me how to play "In This River"

I personally don't see how piano is "the best instrument to learn theory with". Guitar repeats the same fingering patterns all throughout the fretboard and therefore in my opinion is a better instrument to learn and visualize concepts of music theory. And I'm sure theres an instrument with an even simpler pitch scheme that's better for learning about music.

It's easier for most people because all the sharps, flats and octaves are laid out right in front of you. You can't help but learn the notes on the piano and standard notation is basically tab for piano so you can't help but learn that either. Someone who has seriously been playing piano for a year is going to be lightyears ahead of someone who has put the same amount of time into guitar.Lord of This World wrote:I personally don't see how piano is "the best instrument to learn theory with". I always say that the two best instruments to start learning music on is Piano or Drums. Both provide and damn solid foundation as far as branching out into other instruments. The only other instrument I played was Saxophone. But I don't really miss it.
I'm surprised there weren't any skin flute jokes...

I kind of gave up on piano when I was a kid, but I've been messing around with it a little and I'm pretty decent now but not great. I mostly just want to learn to play more instruments. I reaaaaally want to play drums, but I would need an electric set for space and volume issues, which is pricey. Also, as a saxophonist I should be able to double on flute and clarinet in jazz bands and everything. I own both but I haven't spent enough time learning them. I guess I could say bass too. I play guitar so it's some similiar fingerings but I can't really play well without a pick.

i find that electric drumsets are way easier to play than real ones. i hate playing them though.
i play my drums for hours and hours almost everyday, but put me on an electric kit and within 10 minutes im bored with it.

Me and my brother used to have a piano teacher when we were younger, he used to bring us little bag of sweets and leve different instruments round your house each week. He even wrote us personal songs to play and decorated with borders made of little pictures he used to cut out of magazines. We stopped seeing mr.parker after the police raided his house and found tons of kiddie porn
