The fact that Steve Stevens played with Billy Idol, alot of people never got to see what he's capable of.

I saw Queensryche last night. Geoff Tate is just amazing. He delivered 2.5 hours of clean heavy metal vocals. I've never heard live vocals from a metal band done as well as at the show last night. I don't even like Queensryche that much, but damn.

unsung...
1. robert fripp (king crimson)
2. martin barre (jethro tull)
3. fredrick thorendal...in my opinion, he and meshuggah perfected the detuned syncopated sound so prevelent in todays metal.

I'm gonna have to say that Woody & Pepper from COC might fit in this category. I think COC's such an underrated band, and I rarely find people who are familiar w/ any of their work besides "Clean My Wounds" and "Vote w/ a Bullet". Their albums go so much deeper, and their live shows really kick ass.
There's also (well, used to be) the fucking AWESOME band from Maine called Donnybrook (not the morons from LA who play knuckle-dragging, shaved-ape hardcore). They were...hard to describe. Imagine Tears For Fears got into a trainwreck w/ Faith No More and Tool performed the reconstructive surgery w/ Led Zepplin as the nurse. I'd love to point you to some of their stuff online, but you can't find it anywhere. If you want, PM me and I'll email you an mp3 or two.

if you don't dig Chaosphere, try Contradictions Collapse and None (2 albums sold together). You can definitely tell the transition of Meshuggah, from "swedish metallica with 7strings" to they're more modern sound....
the first track from None starts off with that crazy dial-up sound to pure brutality. check it out...both albums are awesome, though the vox on CC aren't as evolved.

His solo work is pretty cool stuff. A lot of people don't realize that Randy Rhoads modelled his look and his LP after Mick Ronson.Spoke In The Fuckin wheel wrote:Ziggy era Bowie with some great Mick Ronson soaring leads, that dude had glam rock star, guitar idol, all figured out. I have yet to check out his solo shit, but i must.CFH Eternal wrote:Mick Ronson

Marty Friedman should really get some recognition outside of metal also. Not many people can play like him, not just in technical ability but in note choice. Also his vibrato > everyone else.
