Just ordered one of these

Post by PABassPlayer »

Has anyone used one?
I purchased it to get a Tool - Sober sound.
Lows and Hi's peaked and mids swept out.
I read an article that it has been used rfor the
Tool sound, has anyone had any experience with one?

I have the Boss bass distortion. I used it for a while to get some growls here and there. Later I bought a DI box that has distortion and some EQ on it so now I just use the Boss pedal as a lead boost.

Its cute for a while but you can't beat a clean bass tone.

I hear ya, I use an SWR Workingpro 700 head and Workingpro 1x15 & 4x10 cabs. It has perfect clean tone, but for songs like Sober, I wanted to just have to hit a pedal to sweep the mid out, rather than have to run back and start fucking with my amp. I use a boss bass overdrive for distortion, 2 songs total, intro for Bell Tolls and NIB. It's kinda silly to spend that kind of money for pedals that you use once or a twice a show, but there are too many assholes that point it out if you don't.

"hey man, you didn't have any distortion or wah on the bass in the bell tolls intro" I just feel like handing them my bass and say "here, you do it then" ....I wish bar drunks would just shut the fuck up. Except that guy at every show in the back that yells "Slayer" all night. I like him.

Agreed that Boss Compressor/sustainer or MXR Dyna or Supercomp is better.

I sat in Guitar Center and played through the Boss and Digitech.
They had the Boss in stock, but not the Digitech. I bought the Boss,
brought to the practice room and through my rig was not happy with
the results. There was not enough parameters in the settings. A tone knob
rather than a "hi/lo" seperation. I returned it and ordered the digitech.
Oh, and keep in mind this is for bass, guitar pedals with bass often don't
produce a good sound.

Not a fan of digitech either..It does have dbx compression technology in it, which is what I would've suggested...Try it, if you dont like it, eBay it.

I use a SWR Workingman's 4004 head and the 4x10 cab. I was eventually planning on getting the Workingman's 1x15 but they don't sell the Workingman's series new anymore, so I guess the Workingpro is the closest thing now. But now I don't even know if I want the 15 and may just get another 4x10.

Does the 15 really make that much of a difference? Does it have more rumble, clarity or volume with the lowest bass notes? Would it make the low notes of the B string on a 5 string cleaner?

For me, yeah. The 15 does make a difference especially when playing my 5 string. The Workingpro series are completely different in sound to the workingmans (I had them first) After hearing the workingpro, I was sold. Traded in the workingman rig and paid the difference. I had 6 different bass players play through my rig at a benefit on Sunday and everyone said they were thoroughly impressed, including one guy that is endorsed by Eden. At this point I think the only thing I would consider upgrading to would be an Ampeg SVT with a 4x12-1x18 "refridgerator" cab. I could afford it, but I'm playing bars, not arenas!

Also, not sure if you know, but SWR was bought by Fender 2 years ago.

Doesn't surprise me. They own everything else.

I might try to trade up my Workingman's series. Its in perfect condition besides some of the fur on the amp being kind of fucked up and ratty. Does the Pro series have that same kind of furry shit on it?

I also have a Workingman's 12 combo amp that I never use and keep forgetting about that I could sell to put towards a better half stack.

yeah, pretty much the same covering on the workingpro. The cabs are about the same size, quite a bit heavier and different grilling on the front.
The 4x10 comes with removable castors, and the 1x15 doesn't which is kind of a pain because you have to stack them opposite to move them, then restack them to set up. Take the time to compare them, it shouldn't take much to convince you the workingpro's are made and sound 10 times better.

Yes, definitely not cheap- but flawless sound- even their pre amps are outrageously priced
