good as in how? He might not delve into the depths of wankisms in petruccification but his feel, character, and tone is 10x better than anything techheads could pull out of the left side of their brains.

I was just being sarcastic. I dont think he is the greatest guitar player ever, but I think he is a top contender as one of the greatest metal guitar players. The finesse, power, emotion and tastefulness in his guitar playing is what sets him apart from other heavy metal guitarists. IMHO.

Dime's tone takes a lot of crap now for being OTT, but that's what he was, that's WHO he was. That tone was an extension of himself. There was a lot more mid on VDOP and TGSTK because he wanted a thicker, more brutal sound.
If you scoop your mids, you need to push the volume higher to ensure you don't get drowned out, which generally makes you sound like shit (listen to early live recordings of Metallica). UNLESS you have killer pickups that work with it, which Dime had coming out the ass.
