Rumors have been circulating around the internet that a select number of bands have decided to record a Pantera tribute album, in memory of Dimebag Darrell. After what seemed like years of awaiting to see if the rumors were true, it seems like it has been worth the wait. 16 well-known artists have now gone into the studio to record Vulgar Display of Reinvention: A Tribute to Pantera, including some pioneer acts from the thrash scene such as Slayer, Anthrax and Testament. Although no tracks have yet been recorded, a tracklisting of what will appear on the album has been revealed to be
Anthrax - Revolution Is My Name
Fear Factory - Use My Third Arm
Machine Head - Cowboys From Hell
Hatebreed - Strength Beyond Strength
Shadows Fall - I'm Broken
Sevendust - Walk
Helmet - This Love
Chimaira - Throes Of Rejection
Grip Inc. - Mouth For War
Testament - Heresy
Children Of Bodom - Slaughtered
Soulfly - Primal Concrete Sledge
Megadeth - Floods
Lamb Of God - A New Level
Slayer - Regular People
Mudvayne - Cemetary Gates
The album will open with Anthrax covering Revolution Is My Name, one of the more popular songs from the album Reinventing The Steel (see REVIEWS). They will be joined by former bandmate and brother of Dimebag, Vinnie Paul Abbott, as he wishes to record the drum track for this particular song. This decision was reached when Vinnie Paul turned down an offer to take up the drums for Anthrax's next record, and instead agreed to help create and play on a Pantera tribute album.
"Although many fans may see it as being disrespectful to some extent, I think it's a great way for the world to say goodbye to Brother Dime properly." Vinnie continues, "And the bands I've asked to come help out are all bands I know he loved, and I know they're gonna kick ass and show us that they can continue the legacy that will never die...PANTERA!"
No release date has been set, although there is an estimate that it will appear in stores around Christmas this year.

I dont think it is. The songs seem too mismathced for the bands covering them, Megadeth and Anthrax for example would be much better on something like mouth for war for the former and Fucking hostile for the latter.
