Noob question about effect loops

The place to talk about instruments, tab, the bands gear and anything else musically related.

Noob question about effect loops

Post by Muffin »

Can someone explain to me how these things work? I've never had an amp with one and I don't want to do something potentially stupid.

Plug your effects send into your rack effects input. Plug your rack output into your effects return. Like magic it sounds like a bazillion bucks.

Don't get your neck tangled in the leads. Too many incredible musicians have been lost this way

With an effects loop, if you have external pedals and whatnot, instead of going:

Guitar > Pedals, Effects, Processors, etc. > Amp (meaning all of the amps built in effects, knob settings and channels) > Speaker

it would instead be:

Guitar > Amp > Pedals, Effects, Processors, etc. > Speaker

I've never had much success with any amp's effect loop. I always do effect processing before the guitar hits the amp head.
