Microphones

Post by Wez »

What's a decent entry microphone. I'm not gonna be singing clean. Screams and growels basically. I fucked around whilst the singer of my housemates band was taking a rest and was told I sounded cool, so I wanna persue it. I'm not looking to spend amazing coin here. I'm a student who has bills to pay and food to put on the table. A very solid mic for the cash would be welcome. Worthy of gigs to be honest as I wouldn't plan on upgrading over the next half a year or so.

I think Phil uses one of the Beta series mics from Shure. The singer in my band used that, it was very solid and took a lot of abuse and sounded good as well.

Yeah 58's are pretty much just vocal mics for live use, in my opinion. IF you're going to record vocals at all, you should be using a condenser anyway.

And 57's are still the go-to mic for snare drum sounds and overheads even in studios with millions of dollars worth of gear.

Drum overheads? Are you sure?
