Bass amp...
I picked up a 6 string bass recently and was wondering if any of you fine gents had anything nice to say about the bass amplifiers you own.
I'm in the mood for something small, but powerful enough, and something that doesn't weigh as much as a fucking bus. Size and weight are the reasons I got rid of the one I had.

Re: Bass amp...
Markbass makes some nice small bass amps with plenty of power to them (though not cheap). The Genz Benz Shuttle amps are awesome too but, again, not very cheap. But you can carry them on your back, they're so light.
At this point I'm still using a rack mount preamp/power amp and neodymium speakers in my cabs. I can carry both cabinets at once and it's not a strain. If you're using a six-string you'll probably want a pretty wide frequency range--a 2x12 neodymium set-up with a lightweight solid-state pre/power amp combo like one of the Shuttle amps would do the trick.

Definitely. I'm toying with the idea of doing some solo bass shows, if I am satisfied with the way I've adapted to the 2 extra strings in a few months. Something lightweight and fairly portable would fit the bill perfectly.mobile pfl?yd wrote: If you're using a six-string you'll probably want a pretty wide frequency range--a 2x12 neodymium set-up with a lightweight solid-state pre/power amp combo like one of the Shuttle amps would do the trick.

Genz Benz NEO 2X12 and a Genz Benz Shuttle 6 Max...that's my rig, perfect for what you're loking for.
Cost, cab was $750.00 and the head was $900.00

If you listen to his sound throughout the years, his tone had a lot to do with what bass he was playing.
Early on he had a signature Rickenbacker sound, then later a unique Wal bass sound, and in recent years a tell-tale Jazz bass sound.
As far as amps, he's used many...Trace Elliott, Sunn, Traynor, Ampeg, Roland, Yamaha, Gallien-Krueger, Orange.

Re: Bass amp...
I like a bass sound halfway between yes and pavement.
between obituary and the beach boys.
somewhere between shredding and falling asleep.
all rickenbacker with a humbucker dry through an ampeg
no seinfeld allowed.
fuck you

Re: Bass amp...
fretless bass in metal fucking sucks
5-string bass fucking sucks
the only people who like that shit is the small number of bass players who use them who mistakenly think it's somehow more advanced.
outside of that, nobody cares.
it will never be important.
it will never get you laid

Re: Bass amp...
Bass amp technology has improved quite a bit since this thread in that it’s smaller and lighter with high volume. I was pretty surprised by this when I recently looked into bass amps.
