help us out, we're building a Radiosonde time capsule....
to record data, music, art, your ashes/remains or whatever you want. it will be deployed august 2012 to be preserved past earths predicted catastrophic pole flip and brutal ass weather/conditions to keep your memories alive for a future civilization. i have access to digital media that will withstand any level of radiation, repel any magnetic distortion and remain usable for an estimated 6 thousand years or so which should be long enough for the next civilization to learn how to use our simple directions to open, decode and "read" the contents you decide to send.. every item will be cataloged with detailed descriptions and directions. give a sample of flesh, maybe you will be cloned or time warped to that time... who knows what technology they will have in 6072 thousand years.... email me at the_final_frontier@live.com for more information or if you want to help and contribute to this project....

why would you get maple kick and birch toms. I could understand maple snare and everything else birch. It just seems kind of silly tom toms having better lows then the kick. I guess it all depends on good tuning. Also maple is way better then birch in rock unless the kit is miked.

Fuck, beat me to it!
I've been thinking about getting a remote hi-hat for my kit. It'd make navigating five pedals a little easier if I could put them all side by side.

Well I technically only use one hi-hat anyway, the other four pedals are a double-kick pedal and two pedals for additional triggers. It's starting to get a little nutty but I've pretty much run out of inputs on the brain anyway, so I'm good to go.

Here's all my shit in one pic. The solid state half stack, the tube half stack, ec-1000, ibanez wah, a roland rhodes mk-60 keyboard that I never use, and of course, the most awesome guitar ever.

The double-kick is just a plain ol' Dixon double kick. The hi-hat is a Yamaha. the trigger pedals are just run of the mill Alesis ones that act the same way as a hi-hat but without anything attached to them. I use them either for samples or for percussion sounds like tamborine or chimes or whatever.
The optimal arrangement would be to have the one on the kick and the other four arranged in a quarter circle side-by-side on my left. But since the hi-hat is a tripod style I have to have it where I want to hit it and the trigger pedals don't fit next to it, so they're further off the side more than I'd like. If I had a remote, I could arrange them however I wanted because I could just mount the hi-hat on the rack where ever I wanted. In fact, I'd probably move it a little more forward to my 10-o' clock as opposed to my 9.

Ah yeah.. I see what you mean. Remote would definitely be the way to go. I like my hi-hats to be just so, but I also like the pedal to be right next to left bass drum so I can keep my heel on the bass and still play the hats.
What brain do you have?

I have a Yamaha DTXteme III SP kit. A lot of drummers turn their nose up at electronic drums but I love them way more than acoustic drums and this set is second only to the Roland TD-20 in awesomeness.
And well, since this thread has been resurrected, I'll just repost my whole playroom:

I've rigged up my acoustic kit with those Sound-Off things + dDrum triggers (and Axis E-KITS on bass drum pedals against a practice pad) and loved it but started jamming with my brother in law's band so went back to acoustic. Do you have any recordings you've done with that stuff?

An AX7521 to be exact!

Oh man, I played one of those one time. You talk about a guitar with a TON of fucking tone in it. And they were dirt cheap.
I don't know what made them so awesome, but that right there my man is an amazing guitar.

I don't have any recordings of the weird stuff, just some things done with a Tom Waits-ish singer/songwriter who just wanted some pre-production demos done (and the drumset is only playing "acoustic" sounds).
The band I'm playing in now with that drumset and the crazy configuration is just getting started. It's a six-piece. I don't know when we'll start actually recording anything we're just writing material and such at this point.

Well the AX7221 (which looks almost exactly like that but with a different skunk stripe on the back of the neck) was the cheap one. This one was made in Japan and was a bit pricier but either way though they are pretty nice guitars with a sort of "transparent" tone to them. You can make them sound like a lot of things depending on your amp set up. The clean tone, even on the low-B, is really nice though. Good for jazzy sounds.
I barely touch the thing anymore though I write music almost exclusively on keyboard running MIDI into Reason. I was playing in a seven-string guitar trio which actually popped up because I knew two other guys with the same exact guitar. We painted our faces silver and wore gray clothes. It was kind of goofy but we haven't done anything in awhile.

I bought that set off ebay. I didn't customize it. It sounds very good. I have no complaints.
I know what you're saying though; it does seem a little weird.
