sure there are good bassists that use picks,But they just dont cut it for me it seems,like if they were to be compared to say victor wooten or jaco pastorius or even the great geezer...well i cant completely say that tho because geezer uses a pick for songs like children of the grave but he only use...

yeah get your self a 5 string they are awesome once you get used to the extra string being there. I had a 5 string jazz bass style custom sandberg bass that was pretty fucking amazing but I sold it to save up for a new amp.
