if it was a purpose built guitar, maybe not, but if you could install it to any guitar, (like the guy said) i'd imagine that there would be some damage caused by the alternating tension from the strings, even drop D tuning can warp the neck a little.

also, lower tunings need thicker gauge strings for tone and playability, so the lower the tunings, the crapper the tone, etc.
