Jackson Performer series

Post by Pantera420 »

My boss has 2 guitars up for sale, one being a jackson performer RR. To my knowledge these were built in the late 80's or 90's in Japan but were exceptional instruments. He's selling it for $175 with hardshell case. Do they have 24 or 22 fret necks? I need all the info I can get on these(outlaw  )

I have a Jackson PS4. Mine has 24 frets and I need to replace the stock pickups. They seem to have deadened after playing it for 8 years.

175 seems to be a fair price. Most likely he never played it and it will be in good shape.

Performer are what the "Pro" series is now, minus the sharkies. What you want is a Professional model from the early 90s. Those look like RR1s and are equal to them.

Unless you swapped out the neck on the PS4 it comes stock with 22 frets.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm thinking of the PS3T, which is the RR model..my bad.

By the way, if the serial number starts with a 10, don't touch it...walk away.

do the serial #'s only start with a 10 or 9, or does 9 and below rule, while 10 blows major donkey love?

For the PS series, only 9 and 10 for starting digits for the serial numbers. 10 = bad, 9 = good.

Is this guitar a neck tru model?
I have a early 90's model pro series jap made.
It's a neck tru and it's a really well built guitar
I have had it 12 years and have put emgs, had it custom painted with some cool ass air brush work and just recently put a new floyd rose pro low profile on it and would put it up against a rr1 anyday.
I would go for it if it's one of those models.

You need to look at it to see.
Flip it over and if it looks like the guitar is all one peice than it's a neck tru.
If it has a back plate and 4 screws then it's a bolt on.

Bolt ons aren't that bad. I suppose one you've played neck through models you don't want to go back maybe?

i haven't "negotiated" with my boss yet as he's failed to bring the pictures in. he wants my dsl 401 for this thing but i'm gonna make him put in some EMG's, a real floyd, or a 24 fret neck since it's a bolt on before i part ways with my amp. i plan on getting all these upgrades eventually to make this a thing killer.

my first guitar was a bolt on, and now i play a set neck. so worlds of differences. If i found a bolt on that played as smooth as my set or better, id go for it.
