Getting rid of Glaze was the best decision they ever made.

Been listening to this album lately and consider it as Pantera's best '80s album.

Also, does this seem accurate? TGST>FBD>CFH>VDoP>RTS>PITJ>PM>IATN>MM

The riffs and music on Metal Magic were good, a harbinger of things to come, but the lyrics were pretty silly. But then again, Phil spouts some unintentionally funny lines.

I almost bought this on vinyl just for the novelty. Decided I didn't want a 100 dollar piece of shit in my collection though.

Yeah that's way too much, I'm trying to find this on vinyl along with Anal Cunt, Infectious Grooves and Macabre: Jeffrey Dahmer. I could get them online buy people are asking way too much for them.

Nice. I forgot all about Infectious Grooves. Those guys were awesome. I need to stay away from discogs. Its too easy to get click happy and end up spending a few hundred on stuff you wouldn't have bought in person. I just spent a few grand on about 140 records over the course of a few months just filling out my collection of stuff i've always wanted. Made sure to get everything that was recently repressed before they spike up in value.

Almost had to spend 150+ a piece on Sleep's first two albums, thank fuck for bootlegs. Got Stoner Rock, Doom and Thrash metal albums mainly. Pretty psyched that I found a copy of Nola for 50 bucks, Slaughter in the Vatican for 20, Controlled by Hatred for 20.

There's a lot of albums I want to get on vinyl, unfortunately there's no record stores where I live and have to drive 30 minutes just to buy some. I have been checking out Discogs as well, but again most of the albums I want are $50 and over plus shipping, I'm better off just searching for what I want at record stores and paying $5 if I'm lucky. The music store at the mall also sells vinyl, but it's all remastered stuff and new music that sucks. What's your stereo system like? I got an Akia direct drive turntable and Pioneer SX-780 receiver last month. I might upgrade my turntable to a Technics SL-1700 or 1200 mk II if I want to spend to extra money.

Thats really nice, man. I've got some pictures kicking around here somewhere. I'll post them when i'm not too lazy.

Receiver is a Realistic 2000 SA, minimus 7 speakers, chuo denki ST110 turntable. Gets the job done. Picked up the Receiver off ebay for 100 bucks. Came with the AM/FM tuner and an equalizer.

A record store just opened up about 15 mins from my place. Unfortunately its all modern music for the most part. The best stuff they've got in there is Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pantera...that sort of deal. They have quite a few bins of used records, but the guy has them priced like a fucking asshole. Could be some old as fuck Maiden record thats torn to shit for 45 dollars. yeah right

The only stuff I really want to track down are a few Melvins and Saint Vitus records. Unfortunately, every Melvins album is going for over a 100 dollars now. I've only forked the cash over for A Senile Animal because its the 4xLP set with the colored and etched on the backside vinyl. The only copies of Bullhead or Stoner Witch have bent corners and lots of surface noise.

that SA 2000 looks nice, I have a Realistic tape deck laying around here, I should have bought that Alice in Chains: Rotten Apple tape at the thrift store a few months ago for 25 cents. Some record stores will sell particular albums for big bucks as long as the vinyl itself is in good shape, you can always buy a shitty one with a good sleeve to use. I have been pretty lucky at getting albums in near mint/mint condition, I bought an original Pink Floyd - The Wall album in near mint condition, which was brought in the store just an hour before I came in and purchased it. I also found an original Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance album in mint condition for $15. This pissed me off a little bit, my mom told me about this guy from work who had a garage sale and was trying to sell a bunch of records (mostly metal) that were rarely played, because nobody was buying them, he threw them all into the garbage.

The Marantz 22xx series look nice too, I'd like to get my hands on a 2270. I came close to getting a 2225 but decided to save my money and bought a car. The Sansui receivers are also good units, I would like a AU 9500. The 661 and AU 999 would be nice too.

Wow. I would have been so mad about that. Why are people so retarded. All that guy had to do was look online for a record selling platform then sign up to it. Luckily for me, my dad works at the garbage dump, and he brings home tons and tons of classic albums that foolish people toss out because they finally upgraded to CDs. I've got every original Sabbath, Zeppelin, Rainbow, Dio, Deep Purple, a couple Jethro Tull albums, and tons more. He also said there is a big electronics bin and people toss receivers into it every single day...i've told him to look for the few brand names that I know of that would be a sure fire gem. He used to have a Marantz receiver but he can't find it, according to him he bought it in the early 80s, only used it a few times because he got my mom pregnant back then and had to get his priorities straight and never really got around to enjoying it lol. I'll see if I can use my sisters camera and take a couple pictures of everything for you today. All i've got are these pictures on my PC, sorry for the blurriness, I was in a rush when I took it. Couple pictures of assorted records on images 1 and 2.

Thats some really nice gear. Thats like porn to my eyes, especially the Marantz. I'll probably stick with what I have for the next couple years, or maybe at least buy a modern table next christmas when i've got some extra cash kicking around.

I didn't know they released Rotten Apple as a single. Thats pretty cool. Theres a couple things i'm kicking myself over too. About 6 years ago my dad brought home this tape deck holder that was a briefcase and the thing was packed to the tits with incredible music. Tons of Primus, Soundgarden, AIC, Manson, Pantera, Dr.Dre, Snoop, 2pac....shit like that. But I didnt give a shit about tapes so he either sold it or tossed it back out. :x

Nice! I wish I had luck like that. I've also got to just chill out and take my time in record stores. I usually get so anxious when i'm in there and end up buying the first few things that get me excited.

I mean't to say "Jar of Flies", but I was drunk and was listening to Rotten Apple as I was typing. Yeah you should be more patient when looking for albums, since you might find another one that's cheaper and in better condition. Then again, you'll sometimes find a gem that needs to be bought right away since you may not find it anywhere else at a cheap price. I remember finding Face Value by Phil Collins in excellent condition but had no money at the time, so I hid it under another genre but someone eventually found it. I'm glad I bought The Wall the second I found it since you will never find another one like it in that condition, unless you want to get a new remastered version but those never live up to an album's original production. Is that a Pioneer

Mad Season is great, you have some of the albums I want by Down, Eyehategod and Exhorder. My collection isn't the biggest, since a lot of the albums I want are hard to find or too expensive. I try getting the albums I want in the best condition so it doesn't sound like shit. That's the one problem with vinyl, you have to treat them with care as if your life depends on it.

Nice finds in there. At least since you're finding stuff in person its probably way more enjoyable than just scrolling up and down discogs all day like I do. The Mad Season reissue is really fucking good. Locomotive was a great addition. I can't remember what the other songs sounded like, other than them being pretty laid back and depressing. I need to give it another whirl sometime soon. I wish they used the same cover as the original pressing.

From what I can make out from that picture, everything seems to be in really good condition which is awesome. Its always a gamble when ordering shit online. Half the time one of the corners is bumped in like a half inch and looks terrible. Such a piss off.

I got this leatherbound edition of Earth - The Bees Made Honey in the Lions Skull, and the front cover was warped and dented, the inside of the jacket was ripped wide open. Emailed the guy and told him he needs to learn how to properly pack records and that charging me 80 dollars for that is total bullshit. So he sent me 50 dollars back which was nice of him to do. The vinyl itself is still near pristine at least.

The top row was given to me by my uncle which he got from his idiot friend who likes to write on his records in pen, the rest I bought. Yeah purchasing vinyl online, like anything else, can be risky. It's also more enjoyable going to record stores and looking through hundreds of vinyls and finding gems along the way.

Don't bother getting new turntables, they're poorly made and overpriced compared to the units from the 70s. Just check out garage sales or ads online that are within your area, one man's junk is another man's treasure. I also prefer direct drive over belt driven turntables since there's less maintenance (replacing the belt) and better speed regulation due to the higher torque from the motor, some also have a quartz locking system providing a more consistent speed maintaining the pitch and tempo of the music you're playing.

hahaha thats just awful. Thats like the dumb kids who wrote on their old SNES games. Seen this one gore shot of Earthbound for SNES that had half of the sticker torn off and a big "PATRICK" written with a sharpie over top...baby jesus wept that day. That game goes for over 300 now, without the box and instructions, just the cart.

I used to go to a specific section on reddit that was all about vinyl, a lot of the people there really liked those new project debut carbons. They look really nice and sleek, but fuck me...$400? I don't like how theres no dust cover either, but thats just being nitpicky. Had to stop checking that forum out because of all the pretentious "post-rock" indie fags that post there. Every post was about neutral cum hotel or radiohead.

Thats an interesting perspective on direct drive. I tend to see people praising belt driven tables but I never really got the big fuss about them because like you said, more parts, more hassle. I need to read up more on the guts of turntables and receivers.

Been reading some of this guys articles for the last few months. He's ran that website since the 90's. They're more so audophiles than just your everyday hobbyist, so a lot of the information doesn't really pertain to my needs, but it's still nice to get that information.

I checked out /mu/ and it mostly consisted of Death Grips, Nuetral Milk Hotel, Kanye West, Daft Punk, and a bunch of indie rock bands that all sound the same. Mentioning anything else, especially when it's not an obscure band, would 404 your topic or you get called a pleb because you don't share the same musical taste as these hipster faggots.

Belt driven turntables aren't bad though, my dad has one and it gets the job done, but he will need to change the belt eventually and finding the right one may be difficult. I would rather save myself the trouble and money by getting a direct drive unit instead, they cost a little more but you're saving money in the long run.

Yeah do some research on any units you're interested in before buying them, otherwise you'll get ripped off by assholes. I check out ads of people wanting big bucks for some shitty unit when there's something superior for much less. The guy who sold me that pioneer receiver and akai TT was quite knowledgable on stereo systems and had them fully serviced himself. He also did a demonstration on how my turntable operated and what repairs he made. He was also nice enough to give me some free speakers.

This audio-related message board has a nice community providing helpful information on almost every stereo equipment out there. Check it out sometime: http://www.audiokarma.org

I stay far away from /mu/, i've never seen such uptight, pretentious, and laughable opinions in my life. With those kids, if the band was ever successful or has even a shred of "edge", its garbage to them. Just a bunch of androgynous fags.

Nice website, thanks for the link. Im shocked that an old-styled forum can still be that successful and popular.

This is a good website if you ever want to drool over stuff http://app.audiogon.com/ . Ultra high end gear.
