She's here.....8 strings of joy and beauty....the bottom end with the 2 additional low strings make this INSANE to play. The fretboard is wide as shit! It's also very heavy.
But now I can start jamming on my Ihsahn, Fear Factory, Scar Symmetry, Nevermore...

Why get another 8 string? you should have bought something else like an Ibanez RGA42BK or maybe a pedal board set.

I got this instead of the Schecter I posted before Xmas.
And I have a GNX3000 Workstation, so I'm set for effects and shit...

I just have to get all the images of tech-death shit out of my head that theguybanginsmkillersmom posts, I don't wanna play boring squeak-squeal shit like that...

yeah that neck is insanely wide, but it's more playing room and feels strangely comfortable...and the length allows that low end F# string to not sound all flabby. It's like downtuning below D and getting to keep the tension of a low E string still tuned to E.
The challenge is incorporating it in songwriting, because initially you just feel like plain old Fear Factory low 7 string riffing, that patented fat ass Dino mechanical chugging...I'm looking to people like Jeff Loomis and Ihsahn for inspiration....

I will try and put something together for you. Very much a feeling out process for incorporating the lower stuff, but I've got a lot of examples out there, I'm fairly good on regular 6-String electric.

BTW, I loved the Jeff Loomis album, and Jato Unit was a ripping cut off of there! I was just watching the Guitar World DVD special I got with him doing the exercise and all, and then demonstrations of the album...

I will also check out the Ron Jarzombek (without looking, was he in Watchtower? Something similarly proggy?)

I've been playing on and off 20 yrs, I primarily play rhythm. I am learning lead and don't consider myself solid until I get it down.

After learning, playing along and hanging with Slayer, Morbid Angel, Mayhem, Opeth and the like? I could step into just about any metal band right now if one of their guys couldn't do it, I can learn their music and play it, from doom to grind to black metal. Solos? NO. Very limited in that aspect.

I am a fan of bands and musicians who do extra and proggy shit, and it was hard to play their shit on a 6-string. I mean you don't go throw almost a grand on a guitar like this unless you feel like you can justify owning it, which means playing the fucking thing with some degree of competency.

Yeah he was in Watchtower for a while then went on his own and created some of the most amazing music out there. He also has a brother named Bobby whose a monster on the drums (Look up Peppered Cancer and School by him and his brother Ron.)

I got one, bro. Can play it too. (Peavey 5-Str, now granted for a bass, getting FIVE strings WAS a total nigger move and sucked in hindsight, the bottom string is WAY low).
I learned it at my brother's advice and it made my guitar playing more effortless when I picked the guitar up again from the hand strength.

However, for this guitar there is a wild difference having such a bottom end available when rolling around the other 6 strings.

I didn't think it would make a big deal, but it really gives a nice sinister feel to the riffing. It also works for that sci-fi futuristic metal sound that Meshuggah, FF and Scar Symmetry give...
