i need a little practice amp! i was thinking about buying one of those kits to do it but that would end up more expensive than just buying some old beat up piece of shit

You can still find them modded online for under 2 bills. Even some of the mods are monkey simple and cheap to do as the circuitry is straight forward. I'll post the web site on where you can get the mods.
I was originally going to do a vintage vibrochamp but everyone jacks up the price to ridiculous amounts. thanks, Clapton.
Look at Alamo amps, still can bought for great prices and sounds raunchy when cranked.
