He told me his guitar was $1000 so I'm getting a good enough deal for $600. Hopefully I can try it out this weekend if he remembers to bring it with him to work.

Jeb, you can always send in a money order. They tend to take those too.

I rather get my equipment first and then pay them.

Jeb, you have a recurring theme of about to buy a guitar, then for some reason, you never go through with it.

I know, I either can't make up my mind on what guitar to buy or don't have the money for one later on.

Jeb...in 2005, I was driving past a Guitar Center and decided to stop and have a look. I saw a new Jackson Dinky for $500 and 5 minutes later it was in my car.

Quit being so wishy-washy and indecisive.

I have two HM-2 pedals. Unless you have a noise suppressor and an EQ to put in a chain with it, I wouldn't recommend them.

And Jeb, don't get a 7 string. Find a used Ibanez or ESP LTD model with 6 strings and NO locking trem system. Also, are you in a band? Do you need a 100W head and 4x12 cab? If not, save your money and get a small practice amp. You don't need a huge rig unless you can justify it.

That's the reason I use a noise suppressor. The HM-2 only sounds "good" when it's all the way up all the way across... while you're playing that is. The second you stop... it's buzzing and feedback hell. Especially if you run it while your amp is on a gain channel like I do. I set my gain at about 1/4th to 1/3rd and run the HM-2 at the same time. My tone is like a dirty fat girl... chunky, thick, and stinking.

And don't ever let anyone tell you the Japanese HM-2 is somehow superior to the Taiwan HM-2. I have one of each and they both sound exactly the same.

It would be nice having a stage amp in case I do get into a band.

Shop around then. You can find some nice amps used in the 300-600 dollar range. I'd definitely say your co-worker didn't offer you a fair deal there. 1000 dollars for a Behringer half-stack and a middle-of-the-road Ibanez is more than a bit much...

And a personal opinion here based on 19 years of owning various amps: Don't buy any sort of modeling amp and stay away from multi-effects processors too. Shit like that can look appealing, but you'll wind up utilizing very little of it and they sound like utter trash unless you get a very high end unit. Find yourself a used tube amp. Check out Bugera and B52 tube heads. And stay away from Crate altogether.
