Petition Launched To Get DIMEBAG Inducted Into ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME 2/7/2005 10:01:07 PM A petition has been launched to get late PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Dimebag was gunned down by a deranged fan on December 8, 2004 while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa nightclub in Columbus, Ohio. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame "honors the legendary performers, producers, songwriters, disc jockeys and others who have made rock and roll the force in our culture that it is," according to the organization's official description. Dimebag was obviously legendary, and certainly helped shape the culture and the future of music. While the definition of the term "rock & roll" is somewhat ambiguous, the Hall does have a heavy metal category. Inductees are announced annually during a December ceremony. Shouldn't be just Dimebag, it should be Pantera. He didn't do it alone.

Knowing the shitty corporate music business it probably boils down to how many records you or your band has sold. Although I would like to know whether he got in or not.....anyone have any updates on that?

the rock n roll hall of fame is for washed up bands past their prime who have been sucking the industry's ass for a quarter century. Now i won't go and say " fuck the rr hall of fame, sabbath isn't it man" because I really don't care, and I'm sure Dimebag didn't either.

Doesn't bother me if he gets in the HOF or not, he's still the bomb tizomb regardless

Indeed, I think the only way bands can get inducted is they've been together for at least 25 years, or achieve an unfathomable degree of irrelevance, i.e., Nirvana.

Pulled this off of www.rockhall.com- I think Dime definately meets the criteria...but its put in the hands of 'rock experts'. Pantera always get snubbed, I would be very suprised if he got in.

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.

The Foundation’s nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of about 1,000 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes, and more than 50 percent of the vote, are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year.

so pantera should be inducted in 2008, if metal magic or whatever their first album was is considered to be their first.

They won't add Pantera. I bet those "experts" are the same type of people that work for Rolling Stone and Spin.
