I have been looking for a good acoustic/electric for a while. And these things look nice. I haven't played one, or heard one being played, but it was 519.00 with free shipping and hard case.

I'm a musician and I have an opinion on what kind of guitar you chose.

Nice. I looked at the DBZ site and am a little disappointed he didn't make a new "non-Dean" version of the Z. :( I have an Explorer hard on...

Still some interesting looking guitars though. I may have to track one down and see about it...

You never come in here and/or add anything. You just came in here to talk shit since I got the better of you again. You're only truly accomplishing 2 things here, first, looking like a douchebag, second, undoubtedly letting me know how much I get to you.

The korina epi explorers are pretty nice. The pickups suck though as do all epi pickups, but it's a good guitar for the price.

Please leave the b.s. out of the musicians forum, JJ.

True. The couple I've tried played nicely, but those Epi pickups leave a lot to be desired.

Still think it would be kind of neat if Mr. Dean made an Explorer style DBZ. Judging by the way some of the other electrics look, I'd probably be all over it.

Although I wish I had an extra 6K lying around to call up Ken Lawrence... but I'm not Hetfield.

The dude that made my guitar for me, used to make ken lawrence style explorers too, slightly modified so as not to get sued, but you're looking at 2500.00 to have him build you one.

That's pretty close, but every replica of the Chechen I've seen hasn't quite captured the look of the original headstock. The replicas look "thicker"...

Image

I'm not the biggest Metallica fan, but this guitar is nothing short of amazing...

Image

The closest thing I could get to the KL Chechen is a pre-lawsuit ESP EXP, like the "EET FUCK" Explorer Hetfield had around the Justice/Black era. :(

Thanks though, JJ. I think I might try to contact that seller to see if he can build something raw, unfinished, and custom for me.

As gay as it may sound to most of the guitarists here, I've wanted an 8 string for a while... but my budget isn't nearly big enough. Maybe whoever built that Chechen replica can build an 8 string version...

Going back and looking at it, they did a HORRIBLE job of setting the neck in on that guitar. Looks fucking terrible.

If it's a set neck yeah, it's bad... but it looks to me like it may be intended to be a bolt on.

seriously, blackmachine is the shit.

Blackmachines are nice, but I have 3 main hindrances when it comes to 8 string guitars.

I don't have much money to spare.

I like Explorers.

There are no 8 string Explorer style guitars that I can find.

What I've been considering is finding someone to build a "raw" 8 string Explorer neck and body for me... rather... seeing how much someone would charge me for something like that in an effort to save a bit of money.

To be perfectly honest, 8 strings are so uncommon that you're not going to get one for less than a seriously nice 6 or 7 string, especially with a custom body shape.

rondomusic is selling 8 strings now, cheapest is like 500 bucks

True, but if I have some private person who builds guitars (and knows what they're doing) put together a neck and body with no electronics, no hardware, no finish, and no frills...
Muffin wrote:rondomusic is selling 8 strings now, cheapest is like 500 bucks
I've seen those. The reviews are fairly good and they look pretty nice, but the pseudo-strat-style body is not my favorite.

Schecter made a very limited run of an 8 string V though...

Well by all means look into it, it might be worth considering a single pickup because that will probably save you at least $100.

Why do you want an 8 string?

Posted: Thu Oct 29, 2009 9:29 pm

i want an 8 string. i like 7 strings but i cant get used to having an odd number of strings. in my head i picture the fretboard in halfs and squares and the extra string in the middle confuses me.

Extended range. I like lower tunings but don't like losing higher notes in exchange.
