New guitar time for The Doctor?

I need some opinions here. I'm possibly getting a new guitar soon, and I'm pretty set on an Explorer style body. I've always wanted one and decided it's time to get my hands on one. How many decent ones are there out there?

Does anyone know anything about the quality/playability of a Hamer (not a Slammer model though)?

Can they compete with a Dean Z? An Epiphone Korina Explorer?

I've even seen a few Gibson Faded Explorers on eBay, has anyone tried one of these?

And what about the ESP EX models?

My price range is 400 - 700. Middle of the road-ish type stuff. If I had the cash at hand to throw 1,200 dollars at a real-deal Gibson Explorer I would. Unfortunately I don't...

I'm :?

I would just get an epi explorer. The quilt maple veneer along with the HORRIBLE EMG H-4 pups is enough to steer me away from that one.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of EMGs at all. I have seen a few Hamers in the same "class" without EMGs though.

I did play an Epi Korina Explorer a little over a year ago and it played and sounded amazing, but I also love the look of some of the Dean Zs.

Even the lower end Deans I've tried out have been pretty nice. I played a Korean made Silverburst ML a few days ago and it was  but I don't much care for the look of the ML. I've always been partial to the look of the Explorer.

I haven't really tried many dean's honestly. I wouldnt know on that front, but I know the epi explorers are pretty good for the money.

I've been watching eBay and a guy has tried to sell the same faded Gibson Explorer twice now with no luck. Maybe in a week or 2 he'll drop the price, repost it, and I'll be able to scoop it up.

Barring that, so far it's between the 79 Series Dean Z and the Epiphone Korina Explorer unless someone gives me a good reason to look at a different maker... like Hamer. I'm curious about them but haven't been able to try one out for myself yet.

Ive got the ESP Explorer and i would recommend it but you said you hate EMGs which this has. Other than that its a solid guitar, not heavy, and plays fantastic.

I actually do like ESPs, and love the look of the ESP LTD EX with the spalted maple top.

Are yours active or passive EMGs though?

Its the active pick ups. ive also got a Viper with the passive EMGs and it still rips. Ive had the Viper for 5 years now and it still shreds. i learn new songs on the viper since im so used to it, and it transfers over great to the EX
