MASTODON: North American Tour Dates Announced - Mar. 2, 2009

Atlanta-based progressive metal band MASTODON will embark on a spring U.S. headlining tour in support of its second album for Reprise Records, "Crack The Skye". MASTODON will perform "Crack The Skye" in its entirety along with career-spanning surprises and plenty of visual stimulus in store. This first tour behind the groundbreaking new album will sweep across the U.S. and Canada, playing to smaller theaters and clubs to insure a maximum and up-close intimate environment in which to be exposed to brand new songs and old favorites for MASTODON fans.

Support on the trek will come from KYLESA and INTRONAUT.

MASTODON bassist Bill Kelliher told Billboard.com about the band's decision to play the new CD in its entirety, "there's something about ["Crack The Skye"] where it would be weird to leave a song out. We'll incorporate a whole stage show, which will hopefully make it even more exciting for kids to come see and more visually stimulating." The band is also hoping to make a short movie from all the songs, which Kelliher hopes will be MASTODON's version of "The Wall".

I have yet to listen to the new album, but at least they are telling people they will play their whole new album unlike Iron Maiden.

Before I heard Divinations I was not interested in seeing Mastodon for a third time.

Now, we've got a hot date for May 07 at the HOB.

Holy fuck, that show was fucking awesome. I didn't care for the openers very much, especially the two-drummer band which didn't have any extra dimension with an additional drummer.

But Mastodon playing the whole album from front to back was amazing and then they ripped through a bunch of the older stuff and ended with "Heart's Alive", quite possibly the most awesomes song ever written. :aargh: :aargh:

I'm glad I got to see them in the club. No barricade, no phalanx of yellow-shirted meatheads between you and the band. I got to stand right over the monitor and drool on Bill's pedalboard (and failed to get a good picture of it, fucking shitty camera phone). There are very few bands I have the patience to listen to for more than an hour-long set but this was definitely an exception.

It was worth a six-hour drive. If these guys are coming anywhere near you, you owe it to yourself to make the trip out to see them. Fucking amazing! :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh:

you didn't care for Kylesa?

The sound was fine, it just didn't seem all that interesting to me. Maybe I'm just bored of menstrual metal.

I told the guitarist that his Grand Funk t-shirt was cool though.

I enjoyed Kylesa but I agree with Pfloyd that the extra drummer didn't really add anything to the sound

As long as they play "March of the Fire Ants" they can do John Mellencamp and Springsteen covers and I would still show up. :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: :aargh:

It was a tough call but I picked Mastodon because I've never really listened to Saint Vitus. I found out that I probably could have made it over there in time for Saint Vitus after Mastodon ended though.

They played the whole CTS album first, had like a minute of "intermission" where they played a loop while they had a huddle, and then ripped into a pile of songs from all the other albums, ending with "Seabeast" and "Heart's Alive" at the end.

I saw Mastadon at last year's Mahyem Fest and they sucked cock. Unless they got totally jewed on the sound, it was all a bunch of mud.

Sounds like they were jewed on sound. One thing I don't like about festivals in general is bands tend to just get a line check for sound and off they go. The soundman usually gets the band sounding right about halfway through the last song.
