Nope, I am more musician than you!Muffin wrote:Get out of this forum.Motorhead wrote:Don't bother you are the suck.
Jamerson is goodPABassPlayer wrote:You should start learning different styles, start with James Jamerson (Motown) and Bootsy Collins (funk).
Both of these artists have made me a better bass player.
what's a good free from jazz bassist to learn from? I don't really dig funk or mo town...a lot of music I listen to is based off jazz theory and influenced by jazz (lots of jazz chords, progressions, etc).PABassPlayer wrote:You should start learning different styles, start with James Jamerson (Motown) and Bootsy Collins (funk).

You don't know much about music do you? Just because you google jazz bassist doesn't mean you know much about free form jazz, theory, or anything else about music. get out of this forum.Motorhead wrote:Charles Mingus is the quintessential jazz bassist of course
If you're just getting into jazz stuff... a good band that's more modern sounding jazz to check out is Medeski, Martin, and Wood. I listened to them a lot when I first started getting into jazz lessons, some pretty groove oriented stuff there to jam on. Their rhythm section is one of my favorites.hektik wrote:what's a good free from jazz bassist to learn from? also, what's a good place to start with jazz theory? I know a few simple chords and such but would like to further my knowledge with it!
thanks PA!
Don't bother with music you don't listen to or things you don't want to learn. That will make playing boring.hektik wrote:what's a good free from jazz bassist to learn from? Mingus is one of my favorite musicians you dumbshit, I'm quite versed in Jazz as it's one of my favorite genres.hektik wrote:funny that I typed in jazz bassist into google, went to the first link, and charles mingus was #1 on the list. get the fuck out of here.
I was gonna steal this from my friend's father when he was in jail, but I decided against it. I wish i did now. Thanks budday!BassPhemy wrote:
This is probably the best book I own on theory and bass playing. It filled in the gaps about what I knew about theory nicely and at the end of the book it has a shitload of scales. If nothing else it's cool to open up to the last pages and find a scale and then write something in that scale. You come up with some weird sounding shit.
Nice try.Motorhead wrote:Mingus is one of my favorite musicians you dumbshit, I'm quite versed in Jazz as it's one of my favorite genres.hektik wrote:funny that I typed in jazz bassist into google, went to the first link, and charles mingus was #1 on the list. get the fuck out of here.
He's the most famous jazz bassist, so you're an idiot
You need to hang yourself, especially because your stupid ass didn't know who he is. Fuck
I've owned most of Mingus's recorded works for many years, ain't nothing to try for.BassPhemy wrote:Nice try.Motorhead wrote:Mingus is one of my favorite musicians you dumbshit, I'm quite versed in Jazz as it's one of my favorite genres.hektik wrote:funny that I typed in jazz bassist into google, went to the first link, and charles mingus was #1 on the list. get the fuck out of here.

Paul Chambers? His body of work speaks for itself...Motorhead wrote:He's the most famous jazz bassist, so you're an idiot
I want to learn it so i can incorporate it into metal, kind of like Atheist, Cynic, Aghora, Virulence, and a handful of other metal bands have done. It sounds awesome when pulled off right, but I'm sure you gotta know years of theory.PABassPlayer wrote:Stanley Clarke, Mike Dimin, Gerald Veasley.
Hektik, I'm not a huge fan of "learning" jazz, but love to watch/listen to it.
It's all about the "flava"
Mingus is far more well known and famous.Three Second Doom wrote:Paul Chambers? His body of work speaks for itself...Motorhead wrote:He's the most famous jazz bassist, so you're an idiot
Also, all this Ashley Nichole/Motorhead, etc. argument garbage needs to stay out of here. It is a few steps away from having a 10 page argument about Subway microwaves.
doesn't mean he's the best, get out of this forum. it's for musicians.Motorhead wrote:Mingus is far more well known and famous.Three Second Doom wrote:Paul Chambers? His body of work speaks for itself...Motorhead wrote:He's the most famous jazz bassist, so you're an idiot

I'm not going to argue, personally I just find it amazing the amount of classics Chambers has played on.Motorhead wrote:Mingus is far more well known and famous.Three Second Doom wrote:Paul Chambers?
