I've put off seeing these guys for too long. I believe I shall attend the Ram's Head on May 6th in Baltimore :aargh: :aargh: :aargh:

I have no idea who they're touring with, hopefully they aren't bands that suck!

PhilCore, you've been to the Ram's Head. That was that place we ate at that Sunday, you could hear the band playing in some other room at the time.

I am confused! You did not love the new album? It may not be completely :aargh: :aargh: :aargh: from start to finish but it's a great listen on a long commute.

I don't think they progressed much, either but it certainly wasn't a backward step.

I'm going to have to disagree there, buddy. There were a few good songs, but only one true gem (A Delicate Sense of Balance). A lot of the songs sound rushed and the first four or so end very abruptly like they wanted to continue the song but ran out of time to write it. It's certainly not a bad album, but I would have to say it's the weakest after their EP, which they did before they really developed their sound.

It's also hard to follow an album like The Fire in Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw. I liked them before that, but I wasn't hugely into them until I heard that masterpiece.

The EP rules.

I like the first song a lot but the rest are too repetitive for me to put it up there with the other albums. I never got into the droning duhn duhn duhn shit.

The first few definitely have an experimental feel to them. I kind of dig them for that reason though, like I said on my long cold pain in the ass trip to work in the morning that kind of subdued idiosyncratic stuff is perfect.

I also like that it's in two acts, and the second half not only feels more focused and finished, it sort of wakes up in contrast. That helps pump me for a hard day's egg-flipping. The crescendo of Dead Between The Walls = better than coffee.

And ADSOB is best in show, yes.

Sue is actually even bigger into Pelican than I am; I included "Last Day Of Winter" on a mushy mix CD I made her for xmas and ever since she's been a raging fangurl. Maybe we should all rock out at the Ram's Head together.

They're not exactly touring with awesome bands, it appears. In fact, they're not even headlining. Thrice is.

WTF, who is Thrice?

As long as they have a long set I don't care. If they're not headlining, that just means I can leave sooner

Not looking good man. I'm listening to some songs off Thrice's myspace and not finding much upside...

Also this other band on the bill, Circa Survive. Not very special. Post-hardcore with sort of a heavy Smiths influence. Uh.

I have concluded that these are VERY gay touring buddies they've picked. :fur:

At least the tix are only 17.50

Thrice are emo faggotry. Leave immediately after Pelican finishes. Better yet, just wait to see them headline at a small club.

That is a small club.

I haven't been going to many shows lately so I think I'm gonna try to start going again. I'd love to see Pelican too, even if it's only for 40 minutes or so

I saw Pelican headline twice last year. Both shows were excellent.

What have they done since then to deserve opening for Thrice? :x

Even if one assumed Izzy's analysis of COE as mediocre, that is cruel and unusual punishment.

they opened for Opeth a few years ago which is not as gay as Thrice but still somewhat homo

The shit on their myspace you mean? Not emo, but that doesn't mean it's good or non-faggotry.

are you fucking serious? one of the worst bands i've ever heard. my sister listens to them. their cds are right alongside her saves the day and reel big fish albums.

reel big fish are ok. thrice gets lumped up with these bands so no one ever checks them out. thrice is miles above anything associated with today's current rock scene.

Is Reel Big Fish that punker cover band or am I just asking a stupid question?
