Oranges

i'm thinking about getting one, but i'm not so sure on it. my band is tech death metal with doom elements (ala high on fire/sleep) and ive heard oranges are crushing heavy but are also big on their gain, which sounds perfect for the shit i play. anyone have any thoughts on them? i played one today (AD 30 or something? i found it odd that it was only 30watts, but with full tube i dont think gigging would be a problem) and i loved it.

also: greens are out of the question for me.. too much $ and too hard to find

I had fresh squeezed orange juice from the tree in front of the house I stayed at in Daytona....

Buy the amp.

The only bad thing I've ever heard about Orange amps is that they're expensive.

Well how much cash can you spend? While thirty watts is loud, in a band situation I feel you need the minimum of 50 watts. If you got the cash or not yet, I say save up for the AD140 and get a hotplate with it.

dont buy a low watttage orange, they are best LOUD . if anything just buy one of their cabs. also, dont get one if your other dudes have shitty equipment because you will cut through too much and bury them, the band wont sound so good as a whole.... they are awesome amps and i wish i could afford one. greens are suppossedly just overhyped rarer versions of the same thing for less but i dont know anything other than what i heard about that so fuck it...

Those (Green) cabs will defientley make any cab besides Orange sound like shit.

thanks dudes, i think i'll maybe save for the AD140 with the 50 watts. my bassist is using an SVT 4pro with an 8x10, so i don't think i'd be overdoing him anytime soon. on another note, has anyone tried the thunderverb 200? it's meant for guitar and bass, but i havent seen one in any store anywhere close to me

The Thunderverb is good, defientley a step up from the Rocker series. Now if you are cheap like me and wante to get the Orange sound at a discount price, do this.

A naturally bassy amp

Ampeg V-4(G or B) (the only problem with these is retubing the power amp section is a bitch as only a couple of guys make the exact powertubes anymore and you have to mail-order them).

Catalinbread SCOD

and through a good 4x12.

Damn, that SCOD sounds pretty sick, just checked some samples out. I've been thinking about grabbing a Big Muff but I might be leaning towards that now. I just need a good Distortion/Fuzz for the Hotrod Deluxe I just picked up, nothing with too much gain, I won't be playing death metal or anything like that.

Ever thought of doing the Bluebeard Fuzz? It was Troy from Mastodon uses, Wino from The Obsessed/The Hidden Hand/Spirit Caravan, Juan from Torche uses. It is around the same price but you will have to wait a little longer though. Just listen to the new Hidden Hand album if you want an idea of what it sounds like.
