Want to get back into recording

Anyway, I have used a crappy eight track for the most part. What I am thinking of doing is selling my old computer or deleting all the programs on there and making it a recording one. The problem is I hear everyone say "Mac is the only good computer for recording, everything else sucks". I have a Dell that has XP, would it be better if I just sold it and saved up money for a decent computer?

Don't buy into iHype. As long as you have a decent processor, plenty of RAM, and a good sound card... you'll be fine.

Doc is right. I have a Dell too. I use Cakewalk Sonar 4 which I think is 600 dollars, but I was lucky enough to have a friend who burned me a copy. I don't know how to use half of the shit on it, but it's not too hard to figure out how to do what you need to do. Recording, setting up multiple tracks, using drum samples, etc.

My best advice is to build your own. That's what I've always done.

And if you're recording a lot of things that will need to be mic'ed, invest in a good PCI audio interface.
That's about it though.
