they are actual places. a lot of the festivals in europe are named after the town/city in which they take place.

Yeh so I've heard, but Im not paying the extra cost of flying/hotels so bus it is.

At first the flights were only like £40 return last year but this year they bumped them up to like £110 return because they figured out all these people were going to Hamburg that week.
As for hotels we just stayed in a hostel for like 15 Euros a night and it was ace. Spent a few days in Hamburg this year.
The most annoying thing about the bus home is all the fucking metalheads who never shut up and just stay "drunk", plus it stinks. But it's only like 30hours

Fuck that shit, drive or nothing. Plus you have to pick up weed in amsterdam. And staying at wacken without a car to keep/bring loads of extra shit would be gay.

It's pretty good actually, get to camp right at the front. But I would have liked to have just driven home.

the thing that gets me....this festival is fucking small as hell (1800 capacity?) and yet they get some of the biggest acts in extreme metal to come and play every year. why does this work in norway and nowhere else?

It's all about prestige I guess. And most of the bands are local(ish) so they probably don't get paid a lot. The tickets are expensive too ($165 for 3 nights is a lot) and they sell a lot of beer and merchandise so I'm sure the organisers make plenty. Also, they don't have to build an entire village like an outdoor festival does. Whatever, it rules

Inferno Metal Festival expands with Inferno Metal Expo and Conference!
Thursday april 5th and friday april 6th between noon and 6 pm.
No rest for the wicked - in 2007 the Inferno Festival expands to
Sentrum Scene, to include activites also in the daytime. Yes, in
actual daylight!
We wanted to be able to offer our audience something more while
waiting for the doors at Rockefeller to open - so in stead of walking
the streets with nowhere to go we now invite them inside to join us
for sensory stimulation both thursday and friday. We offer a
big-screen viewing of the documentary "A headbangers journey" (the
special edition of course, with not-before seen material) and music
videos. There will be signing-sessions and instrument workshops with
well-known (we avoid the word 'famous') artists, photo exhibits,
design exhibits, interactive zones and stands of a huge variety.
There are also areas where people can sit down, have a coffee and just relax.
This year we're launching the second edition of IMC:
Promoters, journalists, designers, artists, managements, labels, venues,
booking agencies, photographers - If metal music is your business… join in!
