Last week there was a grand opening for a new store called "Bass Specialties" http://www.bassspecialties.com/ in northeast Philly. I went and checked it out, all high end "designer" basses and Amps. They had a few big named jazz players
jamming, Gerald Veasley http://www.geraldveasley.com/, Anthony Wellington http://www.anthonywellington.com/ and Tony Oppenheim http://www.slapit.com/
and it was a cool vibe. I signed up for the mailing list, and just got an email:

Folks
it looks like the rumors are true!
Victor Wooten will be making an appearance at Bass Specialties on
Saturday, September 16 - he should be arriving about noon and will
hopefully hang out for about 2 hours. I'll send out a confirmation
e-mail when I have all the specifics.
thanks to you all who helped make the Grand opening a huge success &
hope to see you again on Saturday
Glenn

I will definatly be there!!!! Gotta get something autographed, just don't know what.

I've seen him twice before with Bele Fleck and Flecktones, but to actually meet the guy, and have a private clinic. I'm jazzed! (pun intended)

I don't think that will happen, but if it did, that would make for an even better story and pics.

Victor was really cool to a HUGE crowd of us bass dorks when I met him at Berklee. He even did a backflip for us!

PA, you should break your arm & then have Vic sign your cast. Not that I wish any ill to you, but then you'll have something for him to sign... :D

It looks like a bunch of spiders are having a meeting on Vic's head!

He's a cool dude, though, and he can indeed play the shit out of his fiddle.

He was amazing, he played for an hour straight with everyones jaws on the floor.
The only time you heard noise other than his bass was when he would let out an "oooh" , "ah" or "oh yeah"
when he would get into an extremely funky riff. He talked and answered questions for about an hour after.
Then jammed with a few players that were there.
I didn't bother, he played so far out of my league I wouldn't know where to start.
The only word I could use to describe the guy..."groovy"

If you're interested in listening to any of his stuff ie: bass solo's.
Check out Norwegian Wood or Amazing Grace.
He uses quite a few different styles in both and you get a decent idea of his ability.

There is a rumor he will be back in Nov. with Steve Baily on what they call
the Bass Extremes Workshop. You can see the info on http://www.victorwooten.com

Here Victor gives a lesson on his double thumbing and some other things. It's a great lesson and he goes through it pretty quickly but it's still thorough as can be.

hate to stray from the subject, but since i don't have enough posts to start a thread...

what's the ballad on Led Zep's Physical Graffiti? I'm trying to find the tab for it. i thought it was "night flight", but just by looking at the tabs, it doesn't look right

the intro riff starts with a A chord to F chord with a bunch of open strings, I believe.

thanks

wooten is god

It's like comparing pineapples and hand grenades. A comparison is not fair to either party.

hand grenades > pineapples.
Personally, hand grenades make for a rather messy fruit salad. :(
