Maybe you should be more specific

it might be a "knock off"....the assholes at GC would know a replica piece if it bit them in the ass.

Write gibson asking your problem, with return address on it. When they send it back take the info back to gc and demand a real gibson with threat of a lawsuit.

why do you need a serial number
it might be somewhere on the body, behind the pickups maybe

must be stolen. if it's a bass, then it was probably previously owned by a black person, which automatically means it was stolen.
