I don't really know where I'm going with this thread but I just wanted a place to say this and never really had a chance...


I was watching one of those "lessons" probably done by Guitar World or some website with popular musicians and on this particular one it was Wayne Static of Static-X. He explained his technique for palm muting and a bunch of other useless crap and then he started on about dual guitar parts.

"This is one thing I came up with, its playing part of a chord or a note on one guitar and then the other guy playing another part of that chord on the other guitar. I'm sure other people have done this in the past but I came up with this idea all on my own."

That last bit was very, very gay.

I tried looking for it but couldn't find it on YouTube or an actual site. It might have been Guitar.com but I don't know. It had a bunch of lessons with Billy Sheehan and other guys as well.

I could not find it, but I did find a really gay video of him talking about his gear at NAMM. He really doesn't know anything.

I looked on YouTube. I found some concert vids and then TONS of videos of anime with their music dubbed over it. What is the fucking deal with that? Every band I look for has a few music vids and stuff and then that bullshit.

I remember reading a guitar world column written by the guitarist of linkin park, and his lesson was a major scale

It's exotic because it is used in Western music!!! (he had some sort of similar quote like that)

did anyone subscribe to guitar world during the good charlotte columns? one of them said that playing inverted power chords (where you just add the extra note on the bottom to make it heavier, example you play a C power chord and add the G on the low E string) was innovative. what a fucking idiot. every other fucking guitarist does it frequently.

I actually took the time to learn a few things along the way, like how to play. I also managed to learn to read music & learned the theory necessary to analyze & transcribe. What ever did happen to integrity? A guitar has 6 (or more these days) fucking strings. You're SUPPOSED to at lease BE ABLE to use' em all. I'll grant amnesty to Max Cavalera out of respect for what Sepultura was. A bass has at least 3 other strings besides the low fucking E, and you're supposed to know what to do with them, too.

Maybe I'm a rarity, or just getting old, but I learned how to play all the instruments I needed to write the music I wanted to write. I'm not saying I'm equal to every task on every instrument I play, but I'm self-motivated enough to realize it takes what it takes to make something sound good. You've gotta know your instruments inside & out before you can say you know anything.

I remember a few years back when Linkin Park was still all the rave (does anyone except Psycho Gangster still listen to them?), they had their guitarist do a column in GuitarOne or one of those magazines. GuitarWorld, what the fuck ever.

Anyway, I remember reading Dime's column and it was something pretty cool and could be used to improve your technique.
And then the Linkin Park guitarist decided he would talk about the chromatic scale, up the neck.
I couldn't fucking believe they'd actually published this shit.
I'm so glad the nu-metal trend is dead.

What kinda bullshit do the publish in there now?
Last I knew they had people like Loomis/Smyth in there showing you how to sweep your fuckin ass off which I thought was wonderful.
But it's been a few months since I looked at one of those magazines so it's hard to say if they've reverted to putting sub-par musicians in there to give a lesson on how to play power-chord variations or not.
