my band is about to hit the studio, we got an awesome deal on it, but i was wondering if anyone knows what we'd expect to pay when it comes down to mass production, jewel cases and inserts and all that jazz...

A shitload. It depends on how professional you want it to sound, how professional you want the cover/packaging you want, quantity, and how much the publishing company charges.

i meant taking the finished cd, duplicating it about 2000 times, putting the graphic on the front of the disc, having the nice booklet in the jewel case and all that...

your looking at about $2-5 per copy for printing, packaging and duplicating, thats rough estimate, search google for the companies that do it in your area and they will have a price guide, the more copies you order the cheaper per copy it will be.

It's expensive unless you do it yourself, which is what I did for the last two CDs. Pressing costs are about $2-3 a CD with a four-page booklet, but you have to front the pressing of like 1,000 CDs which is probably 992 more than you'll sell.

Who says i'm being a douche? Factor in press-kit promotions, giving the things away to fans, etc etc etc you won't have many left over.

Out of 2,000 CDs I had pressed I actually charged people for like a quarter of them. Of course, I mostly gave the shit away anyway.

i just kind of assumed that "992 more than you'll sell line" was meant in a douche-esque manner.

we're planning on doing an EP very DIY, as stripped down as we can get to start sending to labels, as well as selling at shows for a few bucks, meanwhile saving up all the cash we can to actually make the full length look professional.

Kyle, go to http://homerecording.com/bbs/index.php and sign up for an account. Then post in the music promotion/marketing forum. The people there will be honest and helpful. Some of the members there own dupliaction facilities and mastering shops.

This was a serious reply, for music industry groups, I don't know of a better resource than the one I just listed.
