The demos?
I think they sound kinda fucked up in places, his voice sounds too high to sing those songs.
Depends on which demos you talk about.
The 10 song demo from around 1992 kicks ass.
Sounds great compared to the ones from the original cassette demos.

Nola for sentimental reasons as wells as anything else. Eyes of the South is one of the greatest songs ever IMO.

They're both great but I actually prefer Down II. The musicianship is just tighter and it just feels like they're a real band instead of just a side project.

They're both extremly boring albums after a while. Not saying they arn't good. I would have to say II wins. Just because it's got a little bit more flow. Or maybe Nola...ah, shit. They both have there moments.

Nola feels like it's diriter and has more grit. It's raw.
2 is more polished and has some stronger more original songs
like There's Something On My Side, Meggido, and Lies.
But overall Nola kicks me harder. I pick NOLA.

NOLA is a great album, some awesome songs but there are also some I end up skipping. Down II I can listen to the whole way through, and it's also a lot more diverse and covers a lot more ground than NOLA.

I heard II before I heard NOLA so I'm going to have to say NOLA though my favorite song of theirs (Bury Me in Smoke) is on NOLA. The third one isn't that bad either.
