What are prices like over there actually? How much are people from the UK bringing as spending money?

Posted: Mon Mar 10, 2008 8:23 pm
by whitemike
I just booked my flights with my mates too. Gonna be about 14 of us heading over this year

Spending money wise, I'll be taking about £400 for the 5 days I'll be in Germany. But I will try and avoid spending all of that haha. You can get by on half of that fine. Prices are ok in Hamburg for beer etc, about 3 euro a pint or so. But buying from off licenses are really good when buying shit loads compared to the UK anyway.

Overall, it is slightly cheaper all round. But not hugely.

Fuck aye :D They let you take it into the camping areas no problem and up to the shops / food stalls etc, but you're not allowed to take drink into the actual 'music' arena where the stages are at. Basically to cut down on things like cans and bottles which can be thrown about, or smashed, ripped and left about for drunk wrestlers to be disfigured upon.

What I do, and works very well, is I got a camelbak last year which a backpack with a large 2litre pouch in a hidden back compartment which you can fill with your drink and suck out of a little tube. Just conceal the tube into the hidden compartment when yer headin through, they'll quickly check in your bag and let ye through.

It's also so you're forced into spending money too on their alcohol - As well as the safety

But yeh a bag like this is ace: I've got one similar to it

Filled it 2 thirds whiskey and vodka and the other 3rd redbull. I was fuckin flying

Weonlywonfive. Your description sounds EXACTLY like Bonnaroo. I kept my camelbak filled with water, though. Security didn't seem to mind as the more water going around the less liability they had for heat stroke victims

Good idea but i cant stand walking around a festival (or any gig for that matter) with a backpack on. And i hate the people who do :D

We usually always try to get beer at the supermarkets on "The Wacken Road". But this year we have vowed to stock up before we get to Hamburg just to save any hassle. This way we can park up, set up our tents and relax without having to walk 5 miles before we can put our feet up.

Haha, I only wear it to get into the grounds with my own drink. It's also good for carryin sunblock, cash, yer phone/camera and stuff ye might buy. But I don't wear it when im just saunterin about the shops / stalls / camping area haha. I hate wearin it like, but it has its uses for sure!

I'm taking atleast £1000 this year. Last year i only took about £400 and i had spent most of that after the first day of wacken. I dont want to worry about money and i also want to buy tons of stuff. I also need extra money for hookers in Amsterdam, unless by some miracle i manage to get laid before then.

Yeh I took that the 2nd time I went. Well, about £800... blew it all on fuckin beer and food and a small amount of clothes. Worth it tho, but I just don't have the cash to do that this year

You can get by on £200.... but it's best to take twice that as a good cushion, otherwise ye'll spend it all in a couple of days and be borrowing cash off mates haha. It's VERY easy spending money at Wacken. Very!

well im not going to buy any merch and im taking a lot of alcohol with me. the extra money will just be for more beer really. i'll take about 50 pot noodles with me and live off them.
