what
Formed in Malvern Worcestershire, 1979, Cynic began crafting their music which would later be described in Malc Macmillan`s book, The N.W.O.B.H.M Encyclopaedia, as, “Genre defining of the NWoBHM, sounding like genuine out - takes from Metallica`s Master of Puppets album.”
They recorded “Do or Die” in 1982, (now a world - wide torrent download), and released “Suicide” in 1983, one of the top 50 most valuable and sought after vinyl records available today. In 1987 “Rebel Eye” was also released.
Cynic have played on the same stages and circuit as Grim Reaper and Wrathchild, and appeared on BBC TV and Radio. A lot of their original recordings regularly play on syndicated Internet Radio stations, often reaching an audience of around 200,000.
In October 2006, Cynic went to the legendary Rockfield Recording Studios – Monmouth, (RUSH A Farewell to Kings and Hemispheres albums, Motorhead Ace of Spades), with Matt Butler, (former Air Montserrat engineer, who has worked with, RUSH, Gary Moore, Black Sabbath, Ian Gillan, Dire Straits, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, to name a small few), to record their latest album, “Biblical Flood”, which has the tracks, Suicide, Ten Years from Now, Dark December, Suburban Crises, Rebel Eye, Do or Die, Eight Below, and Faithless One.

Cynic are : -
Shaun Grant – Vocals and Lead Guitars
Dom Heptinstall – Lead Guitars
Tim Batkin – Drums
Gary Curtiss - Bass

I saw them the last 2 times they played at Wacken. Stood their shattered and hammered wondering why I wasn't passed out and where the fuck everyone had gone.

I watched them for about 30minutes each time, thought they were ok for a couple of riffs here and there. Got bored, took a piss, got a kebab and drank myself into a flooded mud tent.

Im looking forward to the thursday night again this year. Hanging out by the Wet stage and drinking ourselves in to oblivion. Overkill was the perfect soundtrack for that last year

Looks like we weren't the only ones disappointed with the Cynic booking.
'Wrong' CYNIC Booked For Germany's WACKEN OPEN AIR Festival - Feb. 5, 2008
Drummer Tim Batkin of the reactivated NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) outfit CYNIC (not to be confused with the reunited progressive metallers CYNIC, whose 1993 album "Focus" is regarded as a landmark release in the field of technical/progressive metal) has released the following statement via the HellrideMusic.com forum:

"The German people have an enviable and just reputation for thoroughness and attention to detail, so it is very disappointing to report that during negotiations for CYNIC (UK) to play at Wacken [Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany] (including telephone conversations to and from England), that whilst they booked and promoted a British heavy metal band from Worcester, England, they (Thomas from Wacken Open Air) believed he had entered into contract with a thrash metal band from the U.S. Dear Thomas (ever the promoter professional), when he realised his error (well, in fact, he sent our team a link to Wikipedia of CYNIC U.S. and asked if that was us), and when receiving the negative response, binned us from the show.

"So, sorry, guys, we won't be playing. If anyone could suggest another venue, we would be all ears to come and play. In the meantime, and putting this distraction behind us, we will crack on with the album and get it out to you."

Yeah i just read this. I actually think Unearth are pretty good for what they do. I wouldn't buy one of they're albums or anything but live they should be good.

Job For a Cowboy can fuck off.

It's still weird though. In 2004 neither of these bands would have even been considered for Wacken.
