We actually never played it at a show. In fact, I was the only member of the band to learn that material.

"Children" is a great song. The bridge really crushes. Sabbath rules. How do you guys treat that sitar break in "Holy Wars?" Just do it clean, or do you have a sitar effect?

it's not us, but the band that does do "holy Wars" just does the part clean...kinda sloppy, but who cares when your drunk.

the funny thing is that another band that shared the same bill with us and the other band played "hanger 18". Jesus!

while "children of the grave" crushes everytime, we are starting to learn "embody the invisible" by In Flames. Not my choice, it's kinda fun. we are playin it Saturday.

Pretty much. Unless he's talking about a warm-up exercise. I'd imagine the guy's just dropping names. You don't play that man's material unless you're highly advanced (to say the least), and I figure he wouldn't be learning stuff like Pantera on guitar if he's into progressive/fusion-type shit on drums.

Actually, ive been playing drums for about 5 years now and guitar for about a year. Since i have a lack of experience with guitar(obviously) im not going to be at as high of a level of accomplishment as i've reached with drums. I also do not understand why(you figured) i wouldnt like a variety of music instead of being trapped in a bubble of one style.

And i never said i can play all donati stuff. i can only play 2 songs (Pyramids on Mars and Native Metal). As far as solos and his overall ability he is matched by few if even any.

Since being hired for this guy's band, I've set aside the drum kit for awhile and have actually sat down and practiced bass. I've been working on style though: a lot of Motown and funk alongside with more seminal 80's "punk/new wave" stuff like Joy Division, The Minutemen, Talking Heads, Nick Cave and the like. This guy is big into a Tom Waits/Cap'n Beefheart/The Stranglers vibe so while I can play a lot of my original influences, the drummer is definitely more of a funk player and I've never really played with a funk drummer. Only rule it seems: No jazz :(

Good times, though.

Raggae grooves are tough to get into, but once you find the pocket it's alotta fun to play. I had to work on syncopation excercises for a bit, then jumped into some Sublime, Peter Tosh and Bob Marley. I think I need a joint now.
