I think Phil definitely acted like a dick for quite a while before the band split up. Instead of facing the music and confiding in his 'family' he allowed himself to grow ever more distant.
On the other hand it couldnt have been easy for him, knowing what a big ego he has, to admit his shortcomings. Especially since the heroin had such a deep grip on him. As bad as Dime and Vinny finding out he was hooked on the stuff wouldve been, it was nothing compared to the fact he knew he wasnt going to kick the stuff anytime soon. Thats partly why i think he kept running from another Pantera album, he knew he couldnt return to the glory days or face his brothers junk-free.
The bullshit smokescreen about not wanting back surgery because of the downtime is a symptom of his still trying to justify his actions of the time. Having the surgery and coming back in a year or two wouldve been better than leading the rest of the guys on and doing side projects while pretending to take time out of music. He lied.
As far as the quote about someone needing to beat Dime severely goes, i believe it came from a dark place but it doesnt mean he didnt love Dime like his own brother, a fact he has made known time and again. Sometimes brothers feud. Phil's mistake was to allow his personal feelings to be quoted in that magazine and he was naive to think they wouldnt print something like that. The press is always about controversy and gossip, whether its the music press or any other.
Its definitely possible Nathan Gale read that article and was in part inspired by it to express his resentment violently. I always felt he identified more with Phil and so he probably, in his delusional way, felt he was acting on Phil's behalf.
So in summing up i believe its possible Phil was indirectly responsible for Dime's death, though of course he would be horrified at that prospect. Phil is something of an enigma. You cant have the raw energy and aggression of Pantera without his unique input and that, in part, stems from his personality and character. The allout, dark, brutal assault you hear in the songs is real and its him and thats what i fucking respect about the guy! Hes not just some vocalist assuming an attitude for the fans. He fucking lived that shit..

Break in the sun till the sun breaks down,
And death shall have no dominion.
And death shall have no dominion.
Exactly.edgecrusheraza wrote:What is there to even talk about here? Of course Phil was the reason Pantera broke up.
The rest of the guy's were ready to start working on new Tera stuff.
Meanwhile, Phil being in the doped-up state he was in started to hate everybody( which is what happens when someone is addicted to smack) and decided to waste his time on Down and Superjoint instead.
I don't think its right for anyone to blame Phil for some psycho going on a killing spree, but he is unquestionably to blame for Pantera's break-up.
Phil's started losing his mind in the Trendkill days, and he completely lost it during the Steel tour. That's what smack does to you.

NOT GUILTY. Dude's, what would pantera have been if Phil never joined? You guy's wanna know what caused the break of Pantera, HERION. If Phil wasnt so stressed/in pain, he wouldnt have taken herion. He could have taken a little break, instead he wanted to please his fucking fans and keep playing shows for all the pantera fans, so what choice did he have? So i dont blame Phil. I dont blame anyone, I blame Herion.
Rest In Peace Dimebag. 1966-2004.
he got into heroin from hanging out in the gay nightclubs. so lets blame the gay nightclubs. but really, i had no idea phil was gay until he came out of the closet 3 years ago.DimebagIsGod1992 wrote:NOT GUILTY. Still there must be some reason why he got along with Bower and Co. but not Vinny and Dimebag......... true though, people with personality disorders and shit can alienate even normal people from them. I don't know.
Poor guy though made a turnaround though and I think is a genuinely good person, I give him the benefit of the doubt. Good luck Phil

Phil turned into a junky, junky's are idiots.
Phil acted like an idiot, he got dellusional on the H Train and thought Superjoint Ritual could be as Pantera because all of the guys in the band were Phil loving groupies feeding his ego on a daily basis.
If Dimebag were still alive Pantera would more then likely be together as Phil seems to be slowly coming out of his dope haze.
Phil is directly responsible for Pantera's split up, him and Vinnie could not stand eachother. I don't know the circumstances behind it.
The fact that he didn't even show up for the recording of RTS and dubbed his vocals over onto the record from home pretty much prove this, not to mention numerous interviews where everyone is pretty much in agreement that Phil wanted to call Pantera quits.
In this respect, Phil is more responsible for circumstances leading to Dimebag's death then anyone else with the exception of the shooter himself.
Phil = douchebag.
