"Nashville" tuning

Post by dead forever »

Anyone ever used this before? I wanted to learn "I stay away" by Alice In Chains the other day, and didnt realise I needed to use some fucked up tuning. Can it be done with your standard 6 string acoustic or do I need to buy a 12 string set to tune the bottom 4 strings up an octave?

All these different tunings are driving me nuts too, fucking cover bands need 4-5 guitars now.

I have my 5 string tuned in B flat that I have to do some stuff in drop A, I have one in drop C, one in drop D flat, and one in E flat, and I have to also put my 5 string in standard B to do DamagePlan stuff. It makes it hard to write a set list and keep the guitar changes to a minimum.
I think I'll buy a metronome!

And why exactly would I change my name to "Schmeagle"?[/b]

So would anyone else like to actually answer my question?

You can play it on a 6 string, it just won't sound as good.

Nashville Tuning is the shit, but highly unconventional.

But if your tuned to standard, your strings are already at the same notes, just different octaves. It will just sound deeper. It's the same with Pink Floyd's "Hey You". When I play it live in standard, it sounds just fine, just lower.

Good luck on the cover, and a tasteful song to do.

Not in pretty much every tab I've read, but I'll give it a shot!
