downtuning with a floyd

Post by hektik »

how do I do this without ruining my action? It took me about an hour to set my strings in standard tuning, and even then they're still a tithair flat or sharp.

loosen the springs to make the bridge parallel again, if thats what you mean. because it shouldnt effect your action unless you raise/lower the pivot screws of the floyd

You have to tune outer strings in, ie

E -> E
A -> G
B -> D

If you're downtuning dramatically, you may have to pop in an extra trem tension spring, depending on where the baseplate is comfortable for you.

Not sure how in-depth this goes, seen better instuction sites, but it's straight from FloydRose.com

I made up a small wood block that fits in the Trem pocket behind the floyd. Granted I cant pull the trem higher, but no matter what tuning I use the floyd stays in just fine. Also the block helps with restringing. I really dont see re-stringing with the Floyd as a big deal. I love the fine tuning dials on them, plus the are just comfy to rest your paw on when playing. :tup:
