if you cant hear the death metal influence in early lamb of god and especially burn the priest you are fucking deaf.
Blasting for a total of about 30 seconds and occasional growling doesn't make a band death metal at all, moron. To say they are influenced by death metal means jack shit; most of the trendgrind/death bands today claim to be influenced by Nile, Dying Fetus, Necrophagist, etc, but that doesn't make them any more death metal (or any less boring).

growling occasionally? on burn the priest and new american gospel all he did was guttural vocals or growl and shreik.

And you still havent explained what makes a band death metal. You've just said that including death metal elements in a song doesn't make it death metal. So explain to me how a Burn The Priest song like "Lame" isnt death metal but Cannibal Corpse is. I'm not saying you don't know anything about the subject, maybe you're an avid death metal fan or something. But I'd appreciate it if you'd inform me of my mistake instead of just calling me a moron. Please enlighten me.

Pretty much. Unless he's talking about a warm-up exercise. I'd imagine the guy's just dropping names. You don't play that man's material unless you're highly advanced (to say the least), and I figure he wouldn't be learning stuff like Pantera on guitar if he's into progressive/fusion-type shit on drums.

Mouth For War

Post by Beachair »

Mouth For War is a Sweet song to practice timing and groove. It has a 3 sick riffs to learn and when you get them down they combine to make a great combination thats fun to play and sounds heavy as hell. Use lots of gain and tons of Palm Muting. The song also uses natural harmonics throughout. Dime used tons of both natural and Pinch harmonics perfectly. Pinch Harmonics are hard at first but they sound so sick you havee to get them to play like dime, without them it sounds weak and wrong. So practice and play them over and over till you can use them at any time easlily and at any time. Dime Did!

Bass: Original stuff in many styles (slapping, finger funk, fast picking, fast fingerstyle) for writing & exercise purposes. Rage "Tire Me", Metallica "Battery" & "Disposable Heroes" for stamina, Pantera "Strength Beyond Strength" & "War Nerve", a bunch of Motown stuff.

Gtr: Mastadon "Blood & Thunder", COC "Man Or Ash", Down "Lysergik Funeral Procession", original stuff, downpicking practice, some 2 & 3 octave scales/arpeggios to attempt to grow some solo chops. Acoustically, doing some Audioslave, COC, and some country & blues too.
