the only thing that was maybe just touching was what phil said about vinnie paul at the end with the your day is coming thing
Break in the sun till the sun breaks down,
And death shall have no dominion.

Yeah that shocked me quite a bit, but then he went on to say that he needs Vinnie and Vinnie needs him.
I was looking forward to Behind the Music but in the end all it did was make me miss the band that much more.
I hope someday we get more of a celebration of the band rather than what we got here.

I haven't seen it yet. Working nights suck because I missed it. I will try to catch it later. I hope it lives up to what Pantera fans want.

It appears that Gale did get the notion to take action on Dime because Phil did said he needs to be beat the shit out of.

So Vin is right to hate the guy. He inspired Gale to take action IMO.

The Behind the music show makes that point pretty clear. What is the timeline from when the interview was printed to the shooting?

Anyone know?

That is very ignorant to say. I believe that fuck's first attempt at this was before that interview was even done, not that it matters.
Gale was "inspired" to take action because he was a delusional lunatic that should have been locked away in an institution long ago.

The mudslinging got a little rough toward the end. No doubt. Rita definitely has it out for Phil. Sometimes I just don't understand human behavior. Letting that kind of acid eat away at your heart and soul isn't big or cool, and it doesn't help anybody. It's petty, it's infantile, it hurts everyone without helping one bit, and it disgraces the memory of the fallen. Period. Talents wasted. Family-like bonds destroyed for no good reason. Needless death. And vindictive spite well after the dead are in the ground. Didn't anyone learn anything?

Apparently not.

Exactly...and personally, I think Vinnie and Rita are personally spitting on Dime's "legacy" without even knowing it by acting that way.

I'll have my say about this documentary and Pantera. First off anything I say I do not mean to offend anyone or piss anyone off.

First off, anyone who said this video was not biased should watch it again. The video was mainly for supporting Dime and bashing on Phil. Not once did anyone (not even the tour managers, producers, etc.) said one cool thing about Phil, other than that he was this drunken, drug using, loud-mouth asshole. And I am here to say that he isn't what VH1 would make you think he is. Every time I met him he's always been the coolest dude on this planet. Case in point, first time I met him I was at a bar here in New Orleans my father's blues band was playing in. "The Bar" He comment heavily on "Cathouse", saying shit like this is the coolest blues band he's heard and all that cool shit. Or when we ran into eachother at the house of shock (his haunted house here), my brother worked for it and I met him briefly and asked him if he rembered the night at the bar, and started goin off on how the band kicked ass n shit. Anyway, VH1 put up Rita and Wylde against him, where was Pepper Keenan to take Phil's side.

Now please don't think I am biased to Phil because I am not. I love Dime and Vinnie. I got the chance to see Damageplan here for the headbangers ball tour. Not to mention that he kicked ass but when I was hanging out on the balcony watching him shread his ass off, he would toss me and and my brother countless black tooth grins, picks, and I almost caught a drumstick from Vinnie, but I guess I have bad hands. I regret to say that was the last time I saw Dime.

Now for VH1. They are herby responsible (and the heavy metal media) for throwing fire on this godamn situation. Ever since Phil saying dime needed an assbeating all the way till a few days ago, they should be responsible for this escapade and fued that has been going on between Phil and the Abbots. Why the hell air a Rita telling a phone convo she had with Phil "you come here and I will blow your brains out." What kinda shit is that, to say to a guy who had waited and felt bad that one of his brothers was killed and not let him say his last goodbye's, if that isn't throwing fuel into the fire, I dont know what is. Anyway, don't listen to the media. They always love grabing big headlines and shit for their financial gain, its all about money in this world, and that is the bottom line, expecially you Vh1. Why the hell listen to them about metal when their whole deal is Pop Music and reality shows, SCREW THAT!!

Anyway, Vinnie, Rita, bury the fucking hatchet already. It wasn't Phil's fault. Remember the good times because that is what matters. Don't be like typical Texas know it all's and have this vandeta so you can point your dirty fingers on someone and blame him for somehting he didn't do. Blame that asshole that killed our boy, and face the fact that most probably if Pantera was jamming in Ohio around that time that he would still have taken a shot at our mentor. This is his fault, that stupid ass started all this hatred between y'all and seperated our fan base. Are you gonna let him win, why didn't you take an opinion on him and blast Phil the entire time (if you did, then again screw VH1). Lets all remember the good times we all had, all of us. Let's fucking make peace today because like that one guy said on here, you are disgracing Dime's memory. Be like Pope John Paul. When he was shot, he forgave him. It is easy to make peace, so god damn easy. /

Cosign. Let the guy say goodbye, staying angry helps nothing. Phil was at least making attempts to say his behavior was wrong and he was sorry.

Kerry King would be a better option for a fantasy band

I'd personally like to see an unedited version of the VH1 special.

vh1 special uncovered the dirt that had burried me for dead: There performance as an opening act for skid row in 94.

that night pantara not only overtook and pisssed off sabastian bach's band that was rich in audience with spandex and hair, it also drove some to the corners of the arena scared to death with dime's guitar pulse and phil's "cement mixer of a voice" blasting into the audience that unforgettably split pockets of onlookers looking for a way out, and those kept as an ensamble of a bloody gathering at there will.
It was the most stunning performance of any type of entertainment that had acually weeded out the "then" to the now in a single show imaginable.

that is all i have to say

I watched the show today, and too found this website in search for a place to express my opinions/feelings, which can be summed up easily;

The grave of Nathan Gale needs to be desecrated and destroyed, repeatedly, forever. There should be no line of people extending beyond him on his family tree.

As for Phil and Vinnie, I admire them both. But if Phil said what he said about Dimebag needing an asswhipping, and Vinnie really did hear him say that on the interview tape, this could take some time.

Bottom line is that it really sucks he's gone! Nothing we ca do but remember the music..As for Phil and the Abbotts..Vinnie and dime would of been nothing with out Phil and Vice versa! Sure with there musical abilty the would of made a succesful band but without the vocals of phil i dont think there would of been a devoted following like pantera's..as well phill prolly would of never of had the success of pantera with out them

I've gotten some co-workers etc. that aren't fans to watch the repeats of the show because I wanted to see some opinions of people that weren't fans for the hell of it.
Most people thought Phil was still on the bad stuff, ( I disagree) but everyone agreed that he should have been allowed at the funeral and that while he seemed to not communicate at the end and said some dumb shit you can't blame the guy for what that sick fuck did to Dime.
I appreciate the time these guys took to watch the show and even led to a couple curious people to go get VGDOP.

That's pretty much the impression my wife got, while she's a fan of the music, she really never got into any of the band personalities, she won't even sit through the vulgar video.

I thought he either looked to be on methadone, and not necessarily at that moment, but methadone can do that sort of thing to you, and they do use it to treat heroin addiction; or more likely he was just choked up anf trying not to show it, I'm sureit's still pretty hard for him to look back at how things went down with him and Dime and have to know he missed his chance to make ammends, and on top of that he missed out on getting to say good bye at the funeral. It's a lot to deal with who knows how it can affect your public speaking.

Having known several heroin addicts I feel safe in saying he didn't seem like he was on heroin, although they may have him on pain meds for his back

I guess it's the fault of Judas Priest that those kids killed themselves too? Don't be such a tool. The guy was unstable and if itwasn't Dime it would have been someone else.

If this has been covered I'm sorry. My main bitch about the behind the music is Rita and Vinnie say phil is evil for wanted dime to get beat up right? But then rita threatens to blow phil's head off. WTF? Which too you is worse? My friend and I also wondered why there was do dime interviews in the piece. We think they focused too much on his death and not enough on his life. But that the media for ya! I find it very funny that vinnie was kissing the media's ass when they made rita look like the next courtney love. Maybe big vin should listen to phil about the press. By the way did phil break up pantera probably but nobody told the brothers to wait they chose too. Not to be a dime store shrink but since the loser that shot dime is burning in hell It seems all the fans, vinnie's, and rita's anger is directed at phil. To me that's alittle irrational. One last thing my friend pointed out when rita said Everyone wanted dime time but I got the most... Don't you think vinnie got the most? Rita didn't even thank the fans for their support she was too busy flaming on phil. Best parts was Dime's dad which almost made me cry. Phil's ending remarks to vinnie were awesome and prove why we need him. Because in a world of wanna bees phil is a true legend. So are rex, dime, and vinnie.

GOOD GOD! I was waiting for the vinnie nuts to say phil inspired the shooting. Ok it's time for the facts Gale was charged with disruptive and violent behavior at a PREVIOUS damaged plan show. The police asked the band to come back and press charges. THE BAND NOT PHIL decided it would cost to much money to cancel shows and go all the way back to put this idiot in jail. I wish they would've and Vinnie probably feels gulity about it so he's lashing out at phil. NOONE BUT THAT FUCKER GALE is responsible for dime's death. If phil gets shot is rita responsible cause of her stupid quotes. Please research this stuff before you point fingers.

What the.....

Post by Abyss21 »

Have to say that the two sides have some deep issues and this show didn't help much, only refueled the fire. Sucks because something like this is still fairly recent and there was not enough time for healing. I'm sure had there been 5 years or longer for VH1 to do the behind the music Pantera version, it probably would have gone a lot smoother and with less blame, rage, & hurt. I'm sure by then the guys would have burried the hatchet and possibly would have said exactly how they felt: too much anger right now, cluttered their interviews.
I have to admit that it did make it look like a Phil vs Dime spotlight contest. Man I love Pantera, always have and always will but they could have waited longer to do this.
That was too little time to get the whole story on Pantera and the troubles they faced. Pantera shit lasted years and the program was less than an hour (commercials).
The show never really in-depth explained why the fucker killed Dime, so we can only make judgments for his actions. Was it because he read Phil's interview about Dime, was it over the break-up of Pantera, or was it that he believed Pantera stole the songs he wrote? Doesn't say but regardless, all the hate, pain and blame should be focused on that fucker. He killed Dime. There are too many possiblities out there had Dime not been killed: Pantera reunion, no reunion, etc..... lets just say the show split the Pantera fan base: Once the stongest, #1 album because we bought the album. Lets get our shit together.

I didn't know about that. I heard something about Gale attempting something at a previous show but didn't know about the band being asked to come back and press charges. If this is true I bet Vince does feel some guilt. But again, neither Vince or Phil is to blame here.....only that fat psycho is to blame.

it's like ya learned in kindergarten... remember your abc's? A. ALL members of pantera. b. everyone who had anything to do with pantera. c. lawyers. vinnie/rex/phill/rita. d. family members of pantera members. they had to approve all this shit to be shown on national tv..... now im not defending vh1 cuz we all know they are a bunch of pop music flamin fags. how many times have you seen a freaking pantera video on vh1?. so when people say there was not enough "healing time" before this was done..... thats the biggest crock of sheot ive ever heard. if all of the above didnt want all this to be aired it would not have been .

If Vinnie didn't want that footage aired, he should have had it under contract that VH1 couldn't air it, or it wouldn't be done. It's Vinnie's own stupid fault.

I definately think there was some 'editing' that portrayed Phil in a negative light- But the guy made his own bed...They had like 4 more albums left on their contract, Phil dicked the label, the management, Concrete had to shut their doors because of Phil's bullshit...and he gave a hardcore dicking to the BAND...the simple fact is he was going back down his druggie assed road, and he put himself around people who wouldn't hold him accountable for being a drug addict. Then all the sudden Dime gets shot, and he wants to open up the lines of communication again? If you look at the chain of events (granted it wasnt directly Phil who pulled the trigger) but this derranged fuck, obviously felt that Vinnie and Dime were responsible for the break up...and who gave him that impression? Phil's statements through the "Metal Media" and the back breaker for me, is that Vinnie said he heard the audio tapes of Phil saying what they printed in Metal Hammer...WORD FOR WORD. In Phil's mind, he probably BELIEVES he didn't say that because he was too drug induced to remember...im sure Phil means well, but when you think you're god, and you treat other people like shit, eventually it catches up to you.. Im just glad they showed Nathan Gale getting his fucking head blown off.
Get killed.
