What gauge of strings do you use for your guitar?

What gauge of strings do you use for your guitar?

Post by Shred-Dimebag »

i recently threw some heavy duty strings on my guitar because that shitty medium gauge strings kept breaking. the guy said not very many people use these strings so i bought another pack. THEY ARE AMAZING.
probably the best switch i have done, i cant explain but they are kick ass.

back to my main question, do you have heavy duty strings, why don't people use heavy duty strings(other then their hands are too pussy or im just too stupid to think of another reason)

what gauge do you use.. and what gauges for different types of music.
just wonderin.
you know sometimes i wonder..

well, i guess its kinda obvious that lighter strings are better for bends and whatnot. look at iommi. granted he had a reason for needing light strings, but his tone and playing were a result of the lighter strings.

I go with GHS boomers (10 -52). I've tuned my guitar down a whole step, so the higher guage string keeps the tension up and prevents the string from buzzing on the frets.

I've heard, "The more tension on the strings, the faster and cleaner you can play" and obviously with less tension - bends will be easier.

I've seen guitar strings go as thick as .70 (GHS Zakk Wylde Boomers)... which is pretty insane (you might as well run bass strings... or buy a bass)

Tight strings sounds terrible. Looser ones give you much more crunch.

yeah, a full step down. Originally because we didn't have a bassist (so we tuned them down and set our rigs to crank out the most bass without sounding like shit). We have recently found a bassist, but are keeping the full step down tuning because standard tuning sounds empty to us.

I tried using light gauge strings on the guitar, but I always break them. I'm used to bending bass strings, I suppose.

I have a seven-string and I use the heaviest gauge strings I can find for it.

I hate Elixir's electric strings. They feel and sound like shit, in my opinion.
