how does this benefit your playing ability, tone or whatever? serious question.

Re: Fanned Frets / Multiscale?
supposedly it is more comfortable for your fretting hand as it is more ergonomic. i'm not sure if it maintains tuning better as you move up the neck. but this is taken from their website:
Ibanez Marketing wrote:The purpose of the multi-scale system is to optimize the tension of each string—creating a more "alive," open tone. The different fret-to-bridge distances enhance tonality, creating a better-sounding instrument. This design not only expands harmonic complexity, but also improves playability across all six strings. The slant of the multi-scale frets ergonomically coordinates with the way a players hand angles as it moves up and down the neck—facilitating quick, comfortable playing action.

I've always been under the impression that a fanned fret fiddle will keep intonation all the way across the fretboard, as well as being more natural/comfortable on the fretting hand. Never got to try on out though.
Re: Fanned Frets / Multiscale?
intonation is not accurate. They do make guitars that are "perfect", they are True Temperament.

I have a 7 string Strandberg. I wouldn't say the multi-scale fretboard contributes to ergonomics so much as to better balanced string tension because of the scale length.
