Fuck, I really wish Mastodon would quit touring with Converge. It's like they don't have any other bands that they think would be good to open for them, and in reality a hobo farting into a mic for 30 minutes would be far more entertaining.

it's kind of an acquired taste in music. I guess you gotta really like all forms of extreme music to like converge. they use a lot of punk, death metal, thrash, even grindcore at times and incorporate it into what you hear. The band name really does suit Converge, as it's just all those different styles of music converging into...Converge. Not everyone's cup of tea at all. They have a few mellow tracks. Listen to "Grim Heart/Black Rose", it's not crazy guitars and screaming, it's actually very down tempo and with clean vocals. Quite chilling after smoking a blunt. Check it out.Browns Town wrote:Yeah well I have to question anyone who listens to anything that band has done and considers it even "ok" let alone AWESOME. I mean really. But I like at least a little bit of all those genres. Some more than others but...eargazm wrote: I guess you gotta really like all forms of extreme music to like converge. they use a lot of punk, death metal, thrash, even grindcore at times and incorporate it into what you hear.
Ok I'll give you this much. Some of their studio stuff is "ok" but when Ive seen that band live (twice) they were seriously god awful. I mean like the worst Ive seen. Ever.

I've seen Converge live many times and they consistently make me angry for having shown up so soon to a show. That and their bassist got mad at one of the shows backstage because - SHOCKER - more people wanted to meet and greet with Mastodon than Converge. Like, no fucking way dude, you're the BASS PLAYER in CONVERGE. Where are the limos, lines of cocaine, and groupies?

This show RULED.
I missed Converge and High On Fire, kind of on purpose. Whatever.
Everything about Mastodon ruled - including the b&w movie playing onscreen behind them as they pretty much did Crack The Skye in its entirety (but out of order, I think) - except for the clean vocals of that one dude. The one that looks like Zach Galifinakis. He was on stage left. I don't know their names to match to their faces or what instruments they play. His vocals were horrendous.
As an encore they played a few songs from all the other albums.
And DETHKLOK - wow, they actually just about blew Mastodon out of the water (and as stated, Mastodon put on a damn good show). Dethklok is a legitimate DM band, if you weren't convinced before seeing them live you'd have to be after. Hoglan is a monster.
Small seems like such an incredible dork, he'd be awesome to hang out with. Fucking excellent death growl, too, and keeps it up throughout their hour+ set.
tacos you will be pleased to know that in one of the animated sketch intermissions the band paid tribute to Steely Dan along with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath (as pioneers of rockers pissing their pants mid-performance rather than abandoning the stage).
