fuck floating bridges

Post by hektik »

this is the 2nd guitar i've owned with a floating bridge. now i can see why people sell these guitars for less than fifty bucks. I took one string off so i could change all the strings to my selected gauge, put it through, tighten it up and notice my bridge is flatter than a three year old. long story short, i took all the springs off the mother fucker and all the strings, what do I do now? just put blocks on either side of the bridge underneath?

how hard would it be to make it a fixed bridge or a string thru?

They aren't garbage if #1, you know how to set them up and #2, don't change string gauge/tuning every 15 minutes.

if you change the string gauge, then you have to adjust the springs in the back to compensate for the pressure. if you went heavier strings, then its going to pull the bridge upwards more, so tighten the springs. If you went lighter, then loosen the springs so the bridge will pull out further. you want it parallel with the body. you just have to keep tuning up the guitar, and retuning until you get it the spring tension just right.

you can make it a fixed bridge by blocking it. cheapest way is to put some wood in there like i said in another thread. or you can buy the tremol-no like Slay said

Stop-tail bridge, string-thru, vintage tremolo > anything double locking in terms of tuning and restringing time.

www.floydupgrades.com makes a simple stop, for $20.
But if your handy you should be able to make one like it for a few bucks.

Otherwise block that bastard with a chunk of wood. More sustain as well.

If you want to do it really cheap just take some pennies and superglue and go at it.
