Wishbone Ash
Progressive Rock
Cornwall, England
One of my favourite bands. I really think that everybody should at least give this band a listen, especially you yanks. Wishbone Ash basically pioneered the use of twin lead harmonies. You think Iron Maiden invented their own style of awesome harmonies? Wrong! They stole them!!! The amazing harmonies you hear in IM's music were actually lovingly lifted from WA, as they are one of Steve Harris' favourite bands. So, obviously, if any of you are even remotely interested in Iron Maiden's music, prog rock/metal, or are interested in listening to history being made, then these guys are essential.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PASSWORD (unless otherwise stated)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My favourite album by WA, and probably my favourite debut of all time. Some of the songs are very progressive, so they may take a while to sink in, but the harmonies and solos are simply incredible. The harmonies in track 3 (one of my favourite WA songs) are amazing and the last two songs are prog masterpieces. Not once does this album let up.
Wishbone Ash - 1970
1. "Blind Eye" 3:15
2. "Lady Whisky" 6:13
3. "Errors Of My Way" 6:56
4. "Queen Of Torture" 3:23
5. "Handy" 11:37
6. "Phoenix" 10:26
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/5ufr72qsh
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This album is their most famous, and is considered their magnum opus. I wouldn't argue against that. In fact, this album sounds like a band finding their feet. The songs are better written and more mature, but i prefer the debut... just. Sometime World is one of my fav WA songs.
Wishbone Ash - Argus 1972
1. "Time Was" 9:42 (Lead vocals - Ted Turner, Martin Turner)
2. "Sometime World" 6:55 (Lead vocals - Martin Turner, Andy Powell)
3. "Blowin' Free" 5:18 (Lead vocals - Ted Turner, Martin Turner, Andy Powell)
4. "The King Will Come" 7:06 (Lead vocals - Martin Turner, Andy Powell)
5. "Leaf and Stream" 3:55 (Lead vocals - Martin Turner)
6. "Warrior" 5:53 (Lead vocals - Martin Turner, Andy Powell)
7. "Throw Down the Sword" 5:55 (Lead vocals - Martin Turner, Andy Powell)
PT 1 http://depositfiles.com/en/files/cuhi0t656
PT 2 http://depositfiles.com/en/files/spn7a3egk
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once again, tracks 3 and 6 are prog masterpieces. I swear Don't Come Back has one of the best song endings ever.
Wishbone Ash - There's the Rub 1974
1. "Silver Shoes"
2. "Don't Come Back"
3. "Persephone"
4. "Hometown"
5. "Lady Jay"
6. "F.U.B.B."
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/2lsjmnu5h
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This album shows a bit of a shift in the music. By now this band were huge and i guess they may have been pressured by their record company to write a couple of radio-friendly songs on here, such as the great You See Red, but they still retain the classic WA harmonies. The vocals in WA have always seemed to take a backseat to the music. Here, the band have clearly tried to focus on writing better vocal harmonies, and it shows.
Stand and Deliver is a great song, with some great harmonies.
A great album, but arguable the weakest here.
Wishbone Ash - No Smoke Without Fire 1978
1. "You See Red"
2. "Baby, The Angels Are Here"
3. "Ships In The Sky"
4. "Stand And Deliver"
5. "Anger In Harmony"
6. "Like A Child"
7. "The Way Of The World (Part 1)"
8. "The Way Of The World (Part 2)"
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/9pxmp8ix2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This album has some particularly great guitar work, and the songs are quite catchy too. It encompass WA's early and later sound well, with some good vocals and brilliant lead work.
Living Proof is one of their more famous songs, catchy as hell with some cool solos.
Haunting Me and Helpless are both great but the standout track has to be the fucking epic final track, Lifeline. Some seriously fantastic solos in this song.
Wishbone Ash - Just Testing 1980
1. "Living Proof"
2. "Haunting Me"
3. "Insomnia"
4. "Helpless"
5. "Pay the Price"
6. "New Rising Star"
7. "Master of Disguise"
8. "Lifeline"
http://depositfiles.com/en/files/frhnduk6c
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
While not necessarily their best live album, this album shows the original line-up playing the classics as well as the best from their later stuff, so it's kinda like a best of. I've always hated the production on their later stuff, so naturally i thought it worked much better live, and yes, they are amazing live.
As for their later stuff, Standing in the Rain has an excellent solo and Why Don't We has some absolutely wonderful melodic leads.
Wishbone Ash - Live in Chicago 1992
1. "The King Will Come"
2. "Strange Affair"
3. "Standing In the Rain"
4. "Lost Cause in Paradise"
5. "Keeper of the Light"
6. "Throw Down the Sword"
7. "In the Skin"
8. "Why Don't We?"
9. "Hard Times"
10. "Blowin' Free"
11. "Living Proof"
http://rapidshare.com/files/173281864/Wishbone_Ash_-_Living_Proof__Live_In_Chicago__1992.rar
There are loads more WA albums, but these are the ones you should check out first.
I doubt anyone gives a goddamn shit but i'm bored as hell and i've been meaning to do this for a while. |

errr, what does Metallica have to do with Pink Floyd? no, i've never heard it. i listened to it on youtube and i can't recall ever hearing it before. i haven't heard a single Floyd album and apart from "the wall" i wouldn't be able to name any other song by them if you put a gun to my head. i've been meaning to check them out for years now, just never got around to it.
worry not though chaps, i just found the complete PF discography. downloading as i write this |
