four stages all going on at the same time? that's kinda gay that you'd have to miss a lot of bands you might want to see. I wonder if evil army is still playing now that their bass player is dead?

I'm actually going to fill in for them at this show and if they like the vibe, I'll become a full time member.buck satan wrote:four stages all going on at the same time? that's kinda gay that you'd have to miss a lot of bands you might want to see. Neurosis is playing at the same time Cryptopsy, and everyone will leave before Converge plays anyways because Mastodon ends their set right before.Villecore wrote:Ha ha, suckers too drunk to check the schedule by night's end have to sit through an hour of Cryptopsy and their only payoff is Converge.

despite the event being free, I got in just fine. there was a huge line outside but it moved quickly once doors opened.
the masquerade in a really cool venue if you've never been. the venue itself has 3 room (hell, purgatory, and heaven) with various capacities. the largest room, heaven can hold like 1500 or so. which is actually kind of scary because it is on the top floor of the building and the floor is made entirely of wood with minimal supports. you can feel it sag a bit when it is at full capacity. anyways, the other two rooms are downstairs with smaller capacities and stages. the venue sits on a large chunk of land and there is a field out back where they had the mainstage which was set up in a rather large tent similar to what you see at some of the European festivals. I was told this outdoor area could accommodate 5000 or so persons. the idea of having the stage in a tent turned out to be a good thing because it rained the night before and part of the day of. anyways, overall, the concert was excellent and ran very smoothly
Kylesa - opened the show on the mainstage - these guys owned.
Torche - also on the mainstage. they were alright.
Alestorm - indoors on one of the smaller stages - excellent band, I am seeing them again tonight.
Boris - pretty unique but not really my thing, only watch the first half of their set.
Withered - local band from atlanta, they own.
Pig Destroyer - had heard good things about these guys. they played the mainstage and had a huge mosh pit going. some sound problems though.
Warbringer - caught the end of their set waiting for Septic Flesh
Septic Flesh - one of the bands I came specifically to see and they delivered. love these guys.
Wolves In The Throne Room - caught the very end of their set after Septic Flesh. luckily i've seen them before./
Neurosis - pretty intense on the mainstage, the ignored the crowd that which was cool/not cool in some ways.
Mastodon - you know, i'm not a huge fan of these guys, but they owned and certainly deserved to be the headliners of this fest.
I hope this festival becomes and annual thing. it was great that it was free, but I would have paid for a ticket anyways to see a line up like this. only problem was there were too many bands playing at the same time. next time they should expand it over a couple of days and only have two stages instead of 4, or find a pig park and just set up a couple of these tent stages to avoid the capacity issues of the indoor stages. because as you can see, I only saw sets or part of by 11 bands out of the 30 or so that played. overall was well worth it.
